UIT introduces Ultra Dense Storage at CeBIT 2011

UIT Corporation announces the launch of its Ultra Density SV4060j JBOD. February 2011 – As data storage requirements continue to grow exponentially, there is an increasing need for high-capacity, small form factor solutions. In answer to this problem, UIT have developed the Ultra Dense SV4060j that houses up to 60 SAS or SATA 3.5 inch hard drives in a 4U form factor. The SV4060j is a fully featured, enterprise class JBOD with single or hot swappable dual controllers for redundant failover. The ability to hot swap components also extends to the power supplies, cooling modules and HDDs, which are designed to be replaced without the need to power down the system. Thanks to the cleverly designed cooling system and large speed-controlled fans, the 60 HDDs are kept at an optimum temperature to ensure long life and continuous data availability. Niall Smith, UIT’s Sales Director in EMEA said “The UIT SV4060j packs a punch in terms of form factor and capacity. 60 hard drives in a 4U enclosure equates to 30 TB per U. This signifies a turning point in the way we size our racks and the floor space required to accommodate them.” The SV4060j is fully compatible with the entire range of UIT storage products and complements an already extensive line-up including IP-SAN, FC-SAN and NAS to bring a solution to the demands on space and energy within your data centre. Niall added “There has been lots of hype about Green storage, but this is one product that really merits the title. Compared to using standard 3U 16 bay JBODs, an installation of 120 hard drives using 2 x SV4060j’s would reduce power consumption by approximately 37% and take up 62% less rack space. If you add to that the costs and CO2 emissions saved because of the reduced cooling requirements, you start to appreciate the ROI straight away.” UIT will be displaying the SV4060j during CeBIT 2011 in Hannover from the 1st to the 5th March. The UIT booth can be found within the Enterprise Storage Solutions Pavilion, Hall 2, Stand F38, Booth A6. CASSIDIAN introduce SPEXER™ threat detecting Security Radar at IDEX

•             Worldwide only security sensor using new radar technology •             Radar already delivered to military and security customer •             CASSIDIAN is the new Name of the Defence & Security division of EADS February 2011 – Cassidian, the renamed defence and security division of EADS, introduces a new security radar into the market which by the use of new technologies opens up completely new opportunities for the surveillance of border areas or sensitive industrial installations. The radar which has been sold as part of a huge border protection system under the designation TRGS Sec (= Tactical Radar Ground Surveillance, Security) forms the nucleus of a whole product family of security radars named SPEXER™. Under the new serial name SPEXER™ 2000 the radar will be shown for the first time during the International Defence Exhibition IDEX in Abu Dhabi. The first batch of 40 radars has been delivered for integration in a huge border protection system; a military version has been delivered to the German Army. “Our new radar has been so successful that we decided to create a complete product family covering all segments of security applications”, explained Bernd Wenzler, CEO of Cassidian Electronics. “Therefore, we renamed the former TRGS Sec as SPEXER™ 2000 in order to demonstrate the  technological coherence of this product family.” The new product family will consist of several derivatives of SPEXER™ 2000, each optimized for specific applications. In a first step, a version with maximum capabilities in smaller ranges, SPEXER™ 1500 together with a specific version for coastal surveillance, SPEXER™ 2000 Coastal, is expected to enter the market by end of this year. Other versions for the surveillance of critical infrastructure will follow. SPEXER™ 2000 is the worldwide first security radar using the newest radar technology of Active Electronically Scanning Array (AESA). By electronic guidance of the radar beam this technology enables the sensor to fulfill several tasks at the same time while increasing the detection capability substantially. Therefore, one SPEXER™ 2000 can replace two or more conventional radars. The unique detection performance is based upon a multitude of Transmit- and Receive Modules produced by Cassidian. The company is the European leader of this technology. It delivers similar modules for the eart observation satellite TerraSAR, to the trinational air defence programme MEADS (= Medium Extended Air Defence System) and several airborne surveillance and fighter radars. Las Vegas Casino selects “Nevada Gaming Commission Certified” Basler IP Cameras

Ahrensburg, February 2011 – Basler Vision Technologies announced today that several of their new IP Camera models have been selected by Jerry’s Nugget Casino to secure their gaming facilities in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jerry’s Nugget is a well-established Las Vegas casino with various gaming options, live stage entertainment, and dining facilities. In the course of a security technology update, Jerry’s Nugget is replacing 220 analog cameras with 200 Basler IP Cameras. The majority of the cameras are to be installed in the gaming table and slot machine areas. With their megapixel resolution CCD sensors, Basler’s BIP2-1300c-dn IP Cameras help to identify the smallest image details such as the face of a playing card on a large gaming table. Additional cameras will secure the casino’s “cage”, where chips and tokens can be bought or exchanged for cash and where money is counted. In this area, Basler’s new BIP2-640c-dn IP Cameras will be used to detect any irregularities that are too fast for the human eye to see. For video data storage, Jerry’s Nugget relies on a TimeSight video management software and server solution. TimeSight’s video life cycle management (VLM) system periodically compresses all image data depending on its age and event severity, and thus drastically reduces storage costs. Some 25% of the cameras have already been installed by Southwest Surveillance Systems, a TimeSight Systems partner, and they are among the first megapixel IP cameras to have ever achieved certification by the Nevada State Gaming Commission. Among the requirements for certification is a camera frame rate of 30 fps, which the Basler’s BIP2-1300c-dn delivers using any type of compression (MJPEG, MPEG-4, or H.264). And with its frame rate of 100 fps, the BIP2-640c-dn IP Camera is even three times faster than the Nevada State Gaming Commission’s regulations require. Jeremy Stamis, General Manager at Jerry’s Nugget Casino, is delighted with his new security camera installation. “We had a number of objectives in mind when refreshing our surveillance system. Our key goals included truly forensic-quality video as well as extended retention to protect our business against all types of loss, including regulatory fines, liability, shrinkage, and other types of crime,” Stamis said. “With Basler’s IP Cameras and TimeSight’s video life cycle management, we now get both an amazingly high level of detail and still save storage costs.” “Due to the high number of cameras, large storage requirements, and stringent specifications from the gaming commissions, video surveillance in the gaming sector has always been a challenge. The industry hesitated for a long time before replacing aging analog systems with the latest IP-based megapixel technology,” said Marko Vogt, Sales Manager Americas – Security at Basler. “Reaching a constant frame rate of 30 fps in the casino’s low light environment has been a hurdle to adapting megapixel cameras in gaming. The unique combination of Basler cameras and TimeSight’s Video Life Cycle Management solution provides high resolution, high frame rate video while reducing the required storage space by up to 90%.” Scott Bartlett, CEO of Southwest Surveillance, adds: “As one of the first certified megapixel installations in Las Vegas gaming, the quality of images is amazing and will set a new standard for forensic image quality in this environment. Most casinos struggle to determine the suits of cards on the table when viewing their video. This system gives us the ability to clearly read the suit of the cards on the table, not only immediately, but months later.” About Basler Basler Vision Technologies is a leading global manufacturer of digital cameras for industrial and video surveillance applications, medical devices, and traffic systems. Product designs are driven by industry requirements and offer easy integration, compact size, excellent image quality, and a very strong price/performance ratio. Basler has more than 20 years of experience in image processing. We have designed and manufactured high quality digital cameras for almost 15 years. The company employs about 300 people at its headquarters in Ahrensburg, Germany, as well as in international subsidiaries and offices in the U.S., Singapore, Taiwan, Korea, and Japan. Raytec IR protects Malaga Cathedral

The latest RAYMAX covert Infra-Red lighting technology from Raytec is being used to improve security and safety at Malaga Cathedral, on Spain’s Costa del Sol. The baroque cathedral is one of the city’s main tourist attractions and is situated close to a number of other historic buildings in the city centre. So when planners decided to improve surveillance at the site with a new CCTV system, it had to be designed so that it would have minimal visual impact. The use of high quality, Infra-Red lighting was a key part of the solution. “Lighting is an essential ingredient for CCTV systems – without adequate lighting at night the images will be grainy and sub-standard,” explains David Lambert, Raytec’s Director of Sales and Marketing. “But in tourist areas it may not be acceptable to have much, or indeed any, additional visible lighting which may detract from the ambience of the scene.” To solve the problem, the RAYMAX Infra-Red units were chosen because they don’t cause light pollution and allow high performance CCTV images to be seen at night. “As the light from the RAYMAX illuminators is invisible to the human eye, they increase security around Malaga Cathedral without detracting from the unique character of the building, and their neat look fits in well within the architecturally sensitive environment” explains David. Raytec’s energy-efficient illuminators – including both Infra-Red and White-Light – are deployed world-wide at sites ranging from Royal Palaces, tourist attractions and public areas to dedicated high security compounds. In addition all Raytec illuminators consume significantly less power compared to traditional lamps, delivering lower running costs, longer product life and zero maintenance.
