Innovative electronic security and fire products manufacturer, Elmdene International Limited – a subsidiary of Potter Electric Signal, LLC – reports seeing a record number of visitors during the recent Intersec 2013 event in Dubai, up 25% year-on-year, where it announced plans to double business in the region in the coming year. The positive outcome at Intersec was helped, in part, by Elmdene having a strong presence across two different halls throughout the event and being able to unveil new solutions such as its latest, highly efficient, Power Supply Units (PSUs) based on switch mode technology, a cost-effective in-line UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) and Power over Ethernet (PoE) standby PSU devices.

Visitors to Intersec were particularly drawn to the company’s growing range of switch mode PSUs for security and fire applications. Once in place these flexible power supply units have the potential to unlock major energy savings for end users as they are much more efficient (80-87%) compared to older linear models. Significantly, the latest variants can also cope with a wide input voltage range so, unlike some competing products, there is not the complication of needing different versions – 110V or 240V – to be specified, or held in stock, to meet the demands of different countries. Another benefit of Elmdene’s switch mode PSUs is the ability to run significantly cooler than established linear designs. In practical terms this means that they are less liable to fail at high temperatures – an important factor in the Middle East. Operating between 90V and 260V they also offer the potential to cope with fluctuations in the electrical supply.

The key business message from Elmdene at Intersec was the announcement that the company plans to double its turnover across the Middle East during 2013, with the GCC area a primary target in achieving this goal. Moving forward this sales effort is being supported by a strong commitment to customer service. A case in point is the fact that stock is held locally in Jebel Ali, UAE. This measure is designed to expand local access to Elmdene’s product range in the same time zone, so speeding the delivery process. In addition, the company confirmed at the show that recruitment is now underway to have someone in place to offer on-the-ground sales support and training. Another advantage that Elmdene dealing with Middle East customers is the ability to provide products that meet European and, through its association with Potter Electric Signal, LLC, American standards.

Said Ian Moore, Managing Director at Elmdene International Limited: “We are delighted with our success at this year’s event where we not only had our own stand on the UK Pavilion – alongside other members of the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) – but also displayed a selection of our key product lines like switch mode PSUs on distributor Norbain’s booth. Being in two different halls this time around has certainly proved to be to our advantage. Footfall was up, which is good in itself, but we were also pleased with the high quality of the visitors that we saw across the three days. As a direct result of Intersec several new accounts have already been identified in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE and Oman. This places us in a strong position as we look to achieve our ambitious growth targets for the region. ”
