IDIS take Cyber threat seriously

Just prior to IFSEC, SecurityNewsDesk took the opportunity to speak to Brian Song, Managing Director, IDIS Europe.

“Brian, what are IDIS hoping to achieve at IFSEC this year?” asked SecurtyNewsDesk’s Philip Ingram.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to meet with existing and new customers to showcase the most robust iteration of our total solution offering to date. Our goals for this year’s show are to continue to raise awareness of the IDIS brand and product line up and as a result create new sales opportunities as well as deepening existing relationships with customers.

IFSEC is also the perfect platform to launch new products and demonstrate innovation. Visitors can expect to find our flagship DirectIP™ offering—which leverages an NVR-based approach to surveillance to deliver the simplicity, high performance, and affordability for which IDIS recognised.”

On asking what else IDIS plan to exhibit, Song added, “This year we’ll also feature the IDIS Solution Suite™ (ISS), which is a scalable and flexible VMS, offering a unified user experience across different technology platforms that is particularly suited to enterprise customers.

We’ll also exhibit DirectCX™-the IDIS answer to the continued demand for analogue surveillance for the first time in Europe. Supporting HD-TV 2.0. DirectCX comes with market-leading high performance and image quality. Visitors to the show can also see our new 5MP fisheye camera as well as an extended 4k line up, which includes the world’s highest performance 4K H.265 NVR.

Our line-up this year truly meets every surveillance need for businesses large or small.”

“IDIS states on its website that you provide full HD Surveillance solutions. Given leading Cyber Security experts say that 80% of all networks are compromised; what are IDIS doing to ensure security of your networks and the data within them?” asked Ingram.

“We’ve recognised these concerns and developed the cornerstone of our offering, DirectIP, to ensure data integrity and combat the vulnerabilities of the network. Network security really starts with authentication, a username and a password, which is standard for any surveillance system. DirectIP is built on core technologies that protect the usability, reliability, integrity, and safety of our customers’ network and footage data.

We’ve encrypted DirectIP passwords with SHA-256 hash algorithms to prevent unauthorised users, while recorded footage is automatically encrypted and protected from illegal alteration. We use our own proprietary encryption algorithm, Chained-Fingerprint, so that DirectIP NVRs produce independent fingerprint codes from the compressed camera streams and then add a watermarking method on top. DirectIP video streams are also protected by Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) cryptographic protocols when communicating across a network, in order to prevent tampering.

DirectIP also uses a proprietary and patent-protected database file system, iBank. This purpose-built file system provides every DirectIP NVR and external eSata storage device with high performance playback and the stable use of HDD disk drives. iBank automatically restores and restructures damaged index info within the HDD disk drives, making it possible for DirectIP recorders and external storage to run properly even in extreme case of damage; providing the stability and reliability for even the most mission critical of surveillance operations.” Song replied.
