Marshalls is one of the latest companies to renew their membership with Secured by Design (SBD), the national police crime prevention initiative.
Marshalls has been manufacturing hard landscaping materials since the 1880’s and has become the leading supplier of the products that create international urban environments. Marshalls has earned the status of a ‘Business Superbrand’ every year since 2010.
Associated with high quality, Marshalls prides itself on its combined expertise in paving, water management, traffic management and landscape protection, as well as support services to the construction, home improvement and landscape markets.
Managing Director of Marshalls Landscape Protection, Jaz Vilkhu said: “We are delighted to have renewed our association with Secured by Design. We offer a broad range of HVM landscape protection products and strongly believe in the importance of offering products that have met the required test standards from IWA 14.1, PAS 68, PAS 170 and Sold Secure, whilst also keeping in line with aesthetic requirements from Architects and Designers.
“Our aim is to provide secure public spaces which do not look obtrusive, keeping people safe… not scared”.
SBD Senior Development Officer Alfie Hosker said: “Marshalls have an impressive array of Hostile Vehicle Mitigation products within their RhinoGuard category, from planters, seats, cycle stands, bollards and litter bins to the temporary, surface mounted solution, GateKeeper.
“Marshalls focus on offering aesthetically pleasing solutions which fit into the majority of high streets across any town or city without people knowing just what a significant role these structures play in protecting people and buildings.
“They also offer a range of products which can assist in protecting homes and commercial premises, where the threat is considerably less. I look forward to the continuation of this successful relationship between Secured by Design and Marshalls.”
SBD is part of Police Crime Prevention Initiatives (PCPI), a police owned organisation that works on behalf of the Police Service to deliver a wide range of crime prevention and demand reduction initiatives across the UK. PCPI is a not-for-profit organisation and Board Members include senior police officers from each of the four Home Nations who control and direct the work PCPI carries out on behalf of the Police Service.
SBD plays a significant crime prevention role in the planning process to design out crime in a wide range of building sectors. It has achieved some significant success including one million homes built to SBD standards with reductions in crime of up to 87%.
SBD have many partner organisations, ranging from the Home Office, Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government and the Police Service through to local authorities, housing associations, developers and manufacturers and work closely with standards and certification bodies to ensure that their publicly available standards actually meet the needs of the police and public alike.
Products must be subject to rigorous testing and additionally be fully certificated by an independent, third-party certification body accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) before being allowed to carry the SBD logo – this is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK.
