Ministry of Education of the United Arab Emirates partners with British Safety Council to update its national curriculum on health and safety

The British Safety Council has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Education of the United Arab Emirates which is planning to update the national curriculum including health, safety and environmental management information.

At a ceremony held during the BETT 2018 technology show in London in January 2018, both parties entered into a partnership which will see the British Safety Council sharing its health and safety expertise and working closely with educational bodies in the United Arab Emirates, who will deliver the new national curriculum incorporating updated HSE information.

Mike Robinson, Chief Executive of the British Safety Council, said: “We are delighted to enter into partnership with the United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Education to help it update the UAE’s national curriculum and incorporate the latest health, safety and environmental management knowledge and international best practice information.

“This relationship is an expression of the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Education’s confidence in our health, safety and environmental management expertise, which we share internationally.

“Since 1957, the British Safety Council has been campaigning to keep workers healthy and safe, contributing to the creation of ground-breaking legislation that made workplaces healthier and safer. We hope that by working closely with the Ministry of Education and other academic bodies in the United Arab Emirates, we will play an important role in helping future generations gain an understanding of the benefits of the effective management of health, safety and environmental risks for society and businesses.”

H.E. Eng. Abdul Rahman Al Hammadi, Undersecretary for Inspection & Support Services at the Ministry of Education, United Arab Emirates, said: “We are pleased to strengthen and develop further our existing relationship with the British Safety Council, who is an important strategic partner in our efforts to achieve excellence in education, training, capacity building and professional development of our staff and students in the field of health, safety and environmental management.

“The Memorandum of Understanding is a foundation for our future plans to develop tailored qualifications for the education sector that meet our needs and our expectations.  We would also wish to ensure that the EHS Directorate of the Ministry of Education participates successfully in the British Safety Council’s annual Five Star Occupational Health and Safety audit and international awards. We also look forward to working together with the British Safety Council on developing joint seminars, conferences and campaigns to raise awareness of the importance of health and safety culture.”
