Scotshield has secured £2 million in new contracts and created 10 jobs in the first six months of its new office for North East England, in Newcastle.

The Glasgow-based company, which employs more than 250 people across the UK, appointed fire and security industry expert Keith Gascoigne as head of business development for the Tyneside, Teesside and Yorkshire areas late last year.

The investment and commitment to the region has resulted in a very strong period of new business success, with Scotshield securing a number of contracts in the first six months. These include:

  • a deal with renowned engineering firm, Rolls Royce, to install a new fire alarm system at the company’s premises in Newcastle.
  • the installation of a full fire and security package, incorporating fire alarms, CCTV and access control, at the new £70 million Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington, Northumberland.
  • major term maintenance contract in the public sector with significant upgrade opportunities.

Michael MacBean, business development director for Scotshield, said: “We are absolutely thrilled with the success of the business in North East England since we appointed Keith and we then made the further commitment of opening a permanent office for the region.

“These significant new contract wins demonstrate the growing reputation of Scotshield across the UK, founded on our vast industry experience and a very strong track record of project delivery.

“It is equally pleasing to be associated with renowned and respected brands and projects on such large scales and of course we’re delighted to be making our own contribution to the economy of the region, nowhere more so than through the creation of new jobs.

“Our first six months with a permanent presence in the North East have given us a perfect platform and confidence from which to grow the business further, increase our customer base and create more employment opportunities in the area.”

Scotshield has its other offices in Glasgow, Warrington, London, Birmingham, Dundee, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Inverness and Belfast, and recruited Keith to expand its operations in the North East region.

Appointed in November 2012, Gascoigne , with more than 29 years in the industry, brought with him a wealth of sector experience to develop and grow Scotshield’s presence across the North East and Yorkshire.

He added: “It was Scotshield’s dedication to excellent customer service and standards, and staff working ethics, which really attracted me to the role and it’s those very principles which have been fundamental in helping us enjoy this first phase of new business growth in the region.

“I’m very much looking forward to further developing this new role within Scotshield, alongside my team, to provide excellent services and quality products to our customers.”
