Security Industry Association (SIA) announces reshuffle at GovSummit

The Security Industry Assocation (SIA) has announced a reshuffle at the 2017 Security Industry Association GovSummit, which will see Kathleen Carroll – Vice President, Government Affairs, HID Global in a new role as head of the SIA Data Privacy Advisory Board.

SIA Chairman Denis Hebert revealed the news and also announced that Craig Sharman – Director, Federal Government Relations, Johnson Controls Inc. – would head the SIA Government Relations Committee, which was a post previously held by Carroll.

The Data Privacy Advisory Board was established in January 2017, and the SIA put it in place in order to develop and promote guidelines which are in relation to boosting the security of personally identifiable information (PII),  protected health information (PHI) as well as other sensitive data, the association stated.

This data security responsibility is widespread, and the board strive to work with manufacturers, integrators, end users and stakeholders in order to push through and promote the best use of practice across the board.

“I am pleased to assume this new role at the Security Industry Association,” Carroll said. “As a Certified Privacy Professional, I’ve been working on the forefront of privacy considerations in the security industry at HID Global for more than a decade, and I’m pleased to have the opportunity to collaborate with my colleagues across the industry to support privacy guidelines for all Americans.”

Carroll had chaired the Government Relations Committee since 2012, and that position meant she managing their affairs with a particular focus on identity management issues. Sharman, who has been actively involved in SIA Government Relations since 2008, has taken over as chair with immediate effect.

“I would like to thank Kathleen Carroll for her tremendous work as SIA Government Relations Committee Chair, and thanks to SIA leadership for the opportunity to make a difference,” Sharman said. “I look forward to taking this leadership role and will continue to work to elevate our industry among elected officials and advocate on policy issues that are important to SIA member companies.”

Speaking on the announcement further, CEO Don Erickson spoke of his delight about the reshuffle, and has every faith that both Carroll and Sharman will be vital assets to not only the SIA, but the security industry as a whole.

“The fulfillment of these roles by Kathleen Carroll and Craig Sharman will benefit the security industry and safeguard precious advancements in advocacy,” Erickson said. “As top industry executives, they bring a wealth of expertise and contacts to the association, and I could not be prouder of their continued leadership in SIA affairs.”
