Skills for Security Celebrates Winners of the WorldSkills UK Finals

Skills for Security proudly celebrates the winners of the WorldSkills UK Finals in two categories – Fire Detection & Alarm Systems and Electronic Security Systems – where top apprentices displayed outstanding technical expertise and problem-solving skills.

From a competitive field of 16 finalists, for Fire Detection and Alarm Systems, Dominic Glater (DCA Security Systems – Skills for Security) won first place and Luke Kendall (Plymstock Security Systems – The Focus Training Group) earned top honours in electronic security systems.

In the Fire Detection & Alarm Systems category, second place was awarded to Tristan Houghton from Chubb Fire and Security, who was trained by Training 2000. Sam Alsey from ProActive Fire Solutions, also trained by Skills for Security, earned third place, showcasing impressive skills and determination.

For the Electronic Security Systems category, Andrew Mullen from Vault Systems, representing New College Lanarkshire, achieved second place. Third place went to Joseph Laney from KBO Fire and Security, who was trained by Skills for Security, completing the podium for this fiercely contested competition.

As the Organising Partner, Skills for Security played a central role in creating the event that challenged participants with rigorous, real-world tasks. Each stage was designed to reflect industry standards, preparing competitors for the demands of the security sector.

Says Darrell Gilmour, Director of Technical Training at Skills for Security:
“Congratulations to the winners Dominic Glater, Luke Kendall and all the finalists who competed this year. Their skill, dedication, and professionalism demonstrate the outstanding potential within our industry. It’s amazing to see such talent and drive to succeed.”

“At Skills for Security, we aim to help apprentices develop not only technical expertise but also the confidence and resilience needed to tackle today’s complex industry challenges,” Darrell continued. “These competitions highlight the immense value of apprenticeships in building both skill and professionalism.”

The WorldSkills UK Competition is a respected national event spotlighting top young talent across multiple industries. This year’s Fire Detection & Alarm Systems and Electronic Security Systems competitions tested participants on a comprehensive range of essential skills.

This year’s competitions, held at Wigan & Leigh College were made possible by sponsorship from CSL Group, The Security Event, and Texecom, with support from the NSI, Honeywell, Fenix Monitoring, YUASA by GS Yuasa, Dahua Technology, CQR Security, and the SSAIB.

David Scott, Managing Director of Skills for Security, concluded:
“Events such as the WorldSkills UK Competition are vital for setting high standards and inspiring excellence across the sector, and it has been a pleasure to be involved.

“To our winners and finalists, we are immensely proud of your achievements, which represent the future of our industry and highlight the importance of quality training and mentorship. And we are grateful to our sponsors and supporters, whose commitment to the next generation of security professionals has been invaluable in raising training standards across the industry.”
