Socitm and Intel Security partner on Cyber Guide for local government

Intel Security also wins prestigious Socitm Supplier of the Year award in recognition of its outstanding contributions to local government and the public sector

Intel Security and Socitm, the Society of Information Technology Management which promotes the effective and efficient use of Information Technology in local government and the public sector, are announcing a new partnership on the Socitm Cyber Guide, which provides research, guidance and content on the cyber security issues impacting the public sector.

To date, the UK government cyber security efforts have largely been focused on central government’s response to the growing cyber threat. Whilst this must remain a priority, a new local focus is needed in the UK to manage and respond to the changing threats as local public services become increasingly devolved and digitised.

Recent cyber incidents aimed at local authorities in the UK have highlighted that despite local government’s strong track record in investing in effective information security strategies, the public sector is a key target for many cyber criminals and it cannot rest on its laurels.

Intel Security’s sponsorship of the Socitm Cyber Guide, which is currently only available to organisations that use the Socitm Insight service, will make the important resource available to Socitm’s 1,749 members across Local Government and the public sector.

Gordon Morrison, Director of Government Relations at Intel Security, commented:

“Intel Security is delighted to support this very important cyber awareness guide. Anything that can assist in combatting the ongoing cyber threats to local authorities and the public sector, through placing best practice information in an easy to find accessible guide is a great development.”

Socitm is also announcing that Intel Security has also won Socitm’s prestigious ‘Supplier of the Year award’. The award is given in recognition of outstanding contributions made by a private sector partner for the benefit of its public sector membership.

Commenting on the award, Nigel Bragg, Commercial Partnerships Manager, Socitm, said:

“Socitm’s prestigious Supplier of the Year award is given in recognition of outstanding contributions made by a private sector partner for the benefit of our public sector membership.

“This year’s recipient has provided immense value to the Socitm membership through its collaboration on the Insight Cyber Guide resource, through its sponsorship of the upcoming IT Trends Survey on Data Security and through its ongoing support for both the Local CIO Council and Socitm North West groups. We’re delighted to announce the Supplier of the Year for 2016 is Intel Security.”
