Strong Advice for Transport Security Expo

Global security show Transport Security Expo launches a new advisory board for its 2014 event including luminaries from UK security past and present.

All areas from Government to private and public security are represented on the new TRS advisory board which meets to ensure the event remains topical and ahead of the game in providing education and networking for the global transport security industry.

The high-level make-up of the board is headed by British Naval veteran Admiral Lord West, Stephen Phipson from the Home Office’s Office for Security and Counter Terrorism (OSCT) and Rob Coleman, Director of the Home Office Centre for Applied Science and Technology (CAST).

A winner of the Distinguished Service Cross, Admiral Lord West served on 14 ships and commanded three in one of the most decorated careers in British Naval history. On dry land, he advised both sides of the political divide on defence and foreign policy and produced the UK’s first National Security Strategy and Cyber Security Strategy. He was also chairman of the National Security Forum.

Stephen Phipson CBE is a 35-year veteran of the security industry and is the Director for Security Industry Engagement within the OSCT. As leader of the newly established Security Industry Engagement team he is charged with managing the development of the UK security industry’s key initiatives securing export growth.

A fixture at the Home Office since 2005, Rob Coleman was made an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for his work in managing the MoD’s Counter Terrorism and Special Forces research programme and supporting the US in the creation of counter terrorism programmes against Iraqi insurgents. At CAST he now advises the Home Office, law enforcement agencies and other government departments on science and technology and technical support to frontline operations.

Lord West said:

“I am pleased to sit on the Strategic Advisory Panel for this event in a year of significant opportunity for UK security plc. The addition of the new feature, Major Events Transport Security, official Partnership with ADS, a larger focus on international delegations and move into the major expo hall of London Olympia serve as the organiser’s commitment to bring the international spotlight to London.”
