Surveillance Camera Commissioner advises on CCTV

Government Surveillance Camera Commissioner, Tony Porter QPM LLB, will provide advice on how CCTV installers can help to drive best practice, as part of a panel of expert speakers at a forthcoming seminar organised by the British Security Industry Association (BSIA).

Porter’s presentation will reflect on his own work to raise standards across the CCTV industry and installer community, providing advice and guidance to installers on how they themselves may be able to help improve standards among the owners of surveillance camera systems.

The Commissioner will be speaking alongside four other industry experts at the BSIA’s half-day CCTV Seminar and Exhibition, taking place in central London on Thursday 12th November. Also speaking at the event is BSIA Chairman, Pauline Norstrom, COO of AD Group and Dedicated Micros, as well as Simon Adcock, Managing Director of ATEC Security and Chairman of the BSIA’s CCTV Section. Joining them on the panel will be DCI Mick Neville of the Metropolitan Police’s Central Forensic Imaging Team, and James Barrett, Operations Manager of Safer London.

Event sponsors, the British Standards Institute, will also share an insight into the benefits of British standards for individual companies as well as the economy as a whole.

Commenting on his presentation, entitled ‘Raising Standards: How Installers can do their bit’, Tony Porter said:

“I’m determined to raise standards and the installer community plays a vital role in helping raise standards across the sector – they are often the first port of call for someone who wants to install a surveillance camera system and in the UK we’ve installed a lot, 4-6 million! By offering advice on best practice and referring to the Surveillance Camera Code of Practice they can make a real difference by ensuring consumers understand how to operate CCTV effectively, proportionately and transparently.”

Delegate places are available to book free of charge, while exhibition opportunities are also available for those security companies wishing to showcase their own products and services to a wide range of London-based users and buyers.
