Security technology specialist, Mark Wherrett, has been appointed as Chairman of the British Security Industry Association’s (BSIA) CCTV Technical Group.

Responsible for alerting BSIA members to, and advising on, technical issues affecting the CCTV industry – the Group has a key role to play within the industry.

Mark works for surveillance solutions business Synectics as Programme Manager at its Technology Centre. Experienced in advising on key sector issues and pioneering surveillance technology innovation, he feels the CCTV Technical Group is entering an important era.

Mark said: “It’s an exciting time for us right now. The impending completion of International CCTV standards, the development of the Government’s Code of Practice for CCTV, and recent comments by The Surveillance Commissioner, have really put technical discussions around CCTV in the UK in the spotlight – discussions the Group is playing a very active role in.

“As Chairman, my aim is to ensure that the Group continues to thrive as a hub for technical expertise so that we can continue to offer valuable support – utilising the skills and knowledge from installers, manufacturers, and RVRC members, as well as our co-operation with The Home Office Centre for Applied Science and Technology to deliver internationally recognised technical guidance on CCTV.”

James Kelly, BSIA Chief Executive, said: “The BSIA is pleased to welcome Mark to the position of CCTV Technical Committee chairman. The committee has an important role to play in developing professional and technical standards for the sector, and is assisting in the production of a National CCTV Standards Framework for the UK. With technology constantly evolving, the BSIA remains committed to ensuring that its rapidly-developing capability works within an appropriate regulatory framework, and the Technical Committee plays an important part in ensuring this. ”
