US DoD Website Hacked by IS

US DoD Website Hacked by IS and personnel data leaked

Just after midnight the Global Risk Awareness team intercepted a message from a group calling themselves the Islamic State Hacking Division (ISHD).

They described their target as “The US Military” and the leak as “the addresses of 100 US Military personnel”. They claim to have “hacked several military servers, databases and emails and with all this access we have successfully obtained personal information related to military personnel in the United States Air Force, NAVY & Army.” And have “decided to leak 100 addresses “.

The accuracy of the information and where it has come from cannot be verified at this point but US Department of Defense (DoD) officials when informed took the information extremely seriously.

The ISHD document suggests that the individuals named are involved in the allied bombing campaign designed to neutralize IS and goes on to give their full name, rank, home address and photo

The document goes on further to publish what look like official emails between US DoD officials and US military IMAMs preparing for an overseas visit and discussing information that may be of use for studies.

In social media traffic after the release of the list, senior IS Jihadis known to be from the UK stated “British soldiers details released will be nice” as they passed the document widely across known extremist networks.

There has been no formal response from the US DoD but if true this is an extremely serious breach of US military computer networks and had potentially put hundreds of military personnel and their families at risk of “lone wolf” type attacks.
