Gallagher security for SMB enhances Key Tag feature

Gallagher have announced an enhancement for their Gallagher security for SMB Key Tag feature – providing small and medium businesses with an alternative way to arm and disarm their sites. The addition of the Key Tag intrusion alarm functionality gives customers the ability to arm and disarm their business alarm by simply presenting the tag at an arming reader. This provides an alternative to the smartphone app alarm management already enjoyed by Gallagher SMB customers. “The driving force behind our product innovation for Gallagher security for SMB is the evolving and diverse needs of our customers,” explained Lisa Tubb, Senior Product Manager for SMB at Gallagher. “By adding intrusion alarm management functionality to SMB Key Tags, customers now have the flexibility to choose how they arm or disarm their site, depending on the requirements of their business.” Released last year, the Gallagher security for SMB Key Tag feature was developed to meet the varying needs of business owners, providing them with a physical credential option. Beyond the added flexibility that Key Tags provide, the release of intrusion alarm functionality gives temporary users of a customer site, such as cleaners or contractors, the ability to easily arm or disarm an area without needing to install the SMB app on their phone. The SMB Key Tag arm and disarm enhancement is also ideal for sites managing areas where use of a mobile phone is restricted or impractical, such as customer facing or food processing spaces. Currently available in New Zealand, Australia, and the United States, Gallagher security for SMB is a cloud-based security platform designed to simplify the security operations of small to medium businesses, via an easy-to-use mobile app. To read more exclusive features and latest news please see our Q1 issue here. Evanssion

Evanssion strengthens Noname Security partnership

Evanssion, a value-added distributor (VAD) specialised in Cloud Native and Cyber Security across Middle East and Africa, has announced that it is strengthening its partnership with Noname Security, a provider in API Security, to ensure the region is well-equipped to defend against API attacks. There is a massive gap in the visibility on the API layer from the perspective of consumption and exposure of information through the API. This leads to lack of governance and posture management of APIs. Hackers have tapped into these vulnerabilities and are actively targeting these APIs due to misconfiguration and anomalous behaviour of the API. Gartner predicts that by 2025, “less than 50% of enterprise APIs will be managed, as explosive growth in APIs surpasses the capabilities of API management tools.” Securing APIs has thus become a pressing issue to address for CIOs, CISOs, and decision makers as they continue to protect data in this evolving threat landscape. Last year in October 2021, Evanssion signed up an exclusive distribution agreement with Noname Security, headquartered in California, USA, to allow adoption of its API security platform in the Middle East and Africa region. Noname Security delivers the most powerful, complete and easy-to-use API security platform. The company finds and inventories all APIs; detects attacks, suspicious behavior and misconfigurations using AI-based behavioral analysis; prevents attacks and integrates with existing remediation and security infrastructure; and actively validates APIs before deployment. Unlike other solutions that only monitor API traffic, Noname analyses API traffic as well as application and infrastructure configurations to provide better API security posture management, API runtime security and active API SDLC testing. Only Noname Security can find all shadow APIs and API misconfigurations before the company is impacted. Together with the API security leader, Evanssion is working with some of the largest banks in the financial industry and airline providers in the country to make API Security a reality for the Middle East and Africa region. The past five months has seen tremendous growth for Evanssion and Noname in the EMEA region. Ahmad Al Qadri, Chief Executive Officer, Evanssion, said, “We are pleasantly surprised at the maturity of the market in understanding API security and the urgent need to proactively protect systems and data.” “The response from our customers has been powerful and I am confident that the shift from ‘Why API Security’ to ‘How’ will be game changing.” “Partnering with a leader like Evanssion allows us to deliver best-in-class cybersecurity solutions to local customers through the award winning Noname API Security Platform,” said Dirk Marichal, Vice President EMEA, Noname Security. “APIs have become more important than ever and thus it’s a priority to mitigate the associated risks and keep business APIs secure and out of the headlines. We are delighted that Evanssion has recognised this trend, conducted in-depth market research and chose Noname Security as their preferred API Security solution.”   To read more exclusive features and latest news please see our March issue here. World Backup Day

Cohesity speaks on World Backup Day

Brian Spanswick, CISO at Cohesity discusses World Backup Day As we approach the 11th year of World Backup Day in 2022 and look back at the past several years, what have we learned? Given the heightened state of alert recently raised by organisations like the US Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and their Shields Up initiative, this begs the question: is your current backup solution meeting your organisation’s data resiliency and cyber security protection needs for today and tomorrow? These past couple of years have dramatically changed the landscape of attack frequency, what attackers are targeting, and most importantly, the ability to recover data — so this could be the most significant World Backup Day… ever. As the threat landscape of ransomware advances, and the data footprints grow and expand, keeping all the data safe can be a challenge. In a recent ESG survey, 52% of those surveyed said they are better prepared today than to two years ago, but there is more work to be done. So, where should you focus your efforts? Let’s first take a look at how these threats have evolved recently, and then look at why considering a next-gen approach to data management should be top of mind. The threat of ransomware is evolving Ransomware can take on many forms. The Ransomware 1.0 method is common — a fairly unsophisticated type of attack that typically can be addressed by traditional backup and recovery solutions. Moving to Ransomware 2.0, attackers started destroying backups first, then encrypting production data. This type of attack is designed to make it incredibly challenging to restore lost data, and there is almost no recourse to get it back but to pay the ransom. As a result, countermeasures such as snapshot immutability, administrative quorum approval for certain operations, and other next-gen data management and security measures are required to sufficiently defend the data protection environment itself. 1064Defender

1064Defender library expansion

Newly enhanced 1064Defender Raman Analyzer helps solve narcotics and hazmat identification challenges One of the biggest challenges for first responders, law enforcement and customs and borders personnel across the globe is the need to quickly and safely identify narcotics, chemicals or hazardous materials (hazmat) at the scene, in order to take immediate action. It is critical to do this with high accuracy, and for decision makers to have the right tools in place to keep themselves and their communities safe from potential threats. Often, illicit substances can be wrapped in colored packaging that fluoresces and blocks identification by standard analysers, the majority of which operate at a wavelength of 785 nm. This makes it much more difficult to tease out definitive results from the heightened background fluorescence, so users in the field may need to take a sample out of the packaging for analysis, which could expose them to potentially harmful substances. Ahead of the game The Thermo Scientific 1064Defender Raman Analyzer was introduced to the market in March 2021 in order to address this challenge, offering the ability to scan at a wavelength of 1064 nm. This overcomes the fluorescence generated by coloured packaging, enabling users to identify substances safely and quickly through the container or packaging. The analyser is designed specifically for field-based presumptive testing, and achieves highly accurate results using an innovative p-value detection algorithm, setting this device apart from other instruments used for chemical identification. Expanded library to address new threats The updated 1064Defender Raman Analyzer has a greatly expanded library of narcotics substances – and now includes a unique hazmat library for firefighters, hazmat teams and others interested in the identification of these materials – taking the number of substance profiles recognised by the device to approximately 13,000. As a result, this powerful analyser makes onsite testing safer and faster, allowing for the identification of a wide range of new and emerging threats with increased confidence.
