When choosing a CCTV supplier, quality standards are at the top of most purchasers’ wish lists. From British Standards to IEC, Cenelec to the Government’s new Code of Practice, the world of CCTV standards can be a complex one for buyers to navigate, leaving many confused as to what to ask for in a potential supplier.

To illustrate the complexity of the CCTV standards landscape, and to help buyers understand what standards they should be looking for, the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) has produced a handy ‘standards map’, an interactive PDF which gives buyers a snapshot of the minimum standards they should require from a potential supplier.

Finding a supplier that meets all of these standards is a key reason why many CCTV buyers turn to the BSIA. The Association’s involvement on British, European and International standards working groups ensures that all members of its specialised CCTV section are fully up-to-speed with the latest technical and quality standards.

Simon Adcock, Chairman of the BSIA’s CCTV section, comments: “This map gives security buyers a clearer view of the complex world of standards development that can influence the security of their business, and also illustrates the key role played by the BSIA in ensuring that the UK’s CCTV sector continues to provide quality, reliable products and services that meet national and international requirements. Choosing a member of the BSIA gives you peace of mind that your supplier is knowledgeable, reputable and at the forefront of this fast-paced market.”
