Ask the Expert – Eagle Eye Networks

Security Buyer sits down with Rishi Lodhia, Managing Director, Eagle Eye Networks to discuss revolutionising the surveillance sector

Could you please introduce yourself and explain a little more about Eagle Eye Networks (EEN) and its evolution?

As Managing Director of Eagle Eye Networks (EMEAI), my job is fostering the growth of Eagle Eye Networks across Europe/Middle East/Africa/India. It’s a role I greatly enjoy, and cloud video surveillance is a technology I believe will and has changed the security industry. It has the ability to make the world a safer place and change the way that businesses of all kinds operate, making them secure, more streamlined and efficient. I’ve been with Eagle Eye Networks since 2017, when Eagle Eye acquired CameraManager, a company I co-founded and where I also served as CEO. Together with my co-founder of Cameramanager, Tijmen Vos, we had been two product life cycles ahead in the security industry when we invented one of the world’s first cloud video surveillance platforms almost 20 years ago, during our study at the University of Maastricht, the Netherlands. In 2013, Cameramanager was acquired by Panasonic where I served as CEO of Panasonic Cloud Services and launched NuboCam, the world’s first 4G/LTE video surveillance camera. Since joining Eagle Eye Networks in 2017, we have built up our operations in EMEA and the UK, in Africa and India as well.

Eagle Eye Networks was founded in 2012 by Dean Drako, a serial entrepreneur who was the Founder, President, and CEO of Barracuda Networks, where he created the IT security industry’s first spam filter appliance and then grew the company to more than 140 products and 150,000 customers from its inception in 2003 through 2012. Barracuda went public on the NYSE.

Today Eagle Eye Networks is the global leader in cloud video surveillance. The company is headquartered in Austin, Texas. In addition to our office here in Amsterdam, we have offices in Bangalore, and Tokyo. We were ranked 307th on the 2021 “Deloitte Technology Fast 500” list spotlighting the fastest growing technology companies in North America.

Eagle Eye Networks delivers cyber-secure, cloud-based video with artificial intelligence (AI) and analytics to make businesses more efficient and the world a safer place. Using AI in the cloud, Eagle Eye provides real-time business intelligence to our customers. Our technology helps businesses, schools, hospitals, retail operations, coliving facilities, marine business, logistics companies, large corporations and many more organisations to optimise their physical security, business operations, and customer service. Eagle Eye works with most IP and analog security cameras produced in the last ten years, and existing infrastructure can often be reused, so customers can choose the cameras they want to use in their system.

We currently have 11 global data centers that are built for video surveillance and managed entirely by Eagle Eye Networks. Cybersecurity is in our DNA, inherent in our platform, products, part of our  employee and reseller training, and the sole focus of our company’s dedicated security team.

Eagle Eye is always innovating. Our engineering team uses machine learning and AI to develop better, faster, and more accurate analytics that enable recognition, identification, and prediction. When we make updates or improve analytics, they are continuously and automatically delivered via the cloud–with no need for an installer to roll a truck.

Eagle Eye sells and supports its products through a global network of 2,500 channel partners. In addition to providing powerful video surveillance solutions to their business customers, all Eagle Eye Certified Resellers strengthen their own businesses with recurring monthly revenue derived from Eagle Eye Networks subscription model.

How do you define smart video surveillance, and how does this enhance your offering?

We describe Eagle Eye’s 100% cloud-managed solutions as smart, simple and secure. Our Eagle Eye Cloud VMS (video management system) is a powerful and flexible platform that is user-friendly, really easy to install and also affordable. It simplifies video surveillance by combining remote management and cloud flexibility with the ease of installation.

Its purpose built for the cloud and AI, which means that it’s easy for a business to scale their system up or down, adding or deleting cameras, changing the resolution at which video is retained or the length of time video is retained. We offer flexible pricing plans, a wide array of advanced analytics, and an open RESTful API platform for unlimited customisation. Because cloud video surveillance is a subscription service, our customers only pay for what they use, and as I mentioned before they can easily change their options.

We have many technology partners and are always adding more. We believe in the importance of partnerships with various companies. I consider this to be a real added value for a company, both for the customers and for us. We’re an open system that can easily integrate with mission-critical applications.
