Manything Pro Announces Rebrand to Videoloft

Introducing the new face, new name and new future of Manything Pro. Manything, offsite cloud storage provider, announces the business rebrand to Videoloft. The rebrand includes not only a new name, but also new logo, positioning, website and apps. Manything, which stands for ‘monitor anything’, was founded in 2012 by James West and Mike Fischer. The original Manything app was launched to turn old smartphones and tablets into sophisticated home monitoring cameras. In 2016, the company moved into the professional security industry and integrated with a range of professional CCTV cameras. We introduced the Manything Pro brand for professional CCTV installers, integrators and dealers – allowing them to add offsite cloud video recording and remote monitoring software to their CCTV installations, whilst creating a new source of recurring revenue. In October 2019 Manything Pro rebranded to Videoloft. The original Manything app still exists and has over 1 million registered users, but the business is completely focused on serving the professional security market with the Videoloft brand. “The question isn’t if the security industry will move to the cloud; it is a matter of when and at what price,” said James West, CEO and co-founder of Videoloft. “As Videoloft, our aim is to empower professional security installers to make offsite cloud storage the norm and utilise the cloud to add new and affordable features to legacy systems.” For more information visit www.videoloft.com.

Nedap's foward-thinking approach stands out at Intersec Middle East

Nedap stood out at this year’s Intersec Middle East (20-22 January) – not just because of the advanced products that were introduced but the novel way they were presented. Nedap showcased innovations such as its AEOS end-to-end security and the upgraded MACE platform using augmented reality on iPads. It is an approach that enables people to see how this technology works in real life, and will help Nedap to continue its growth in this region. Securing the security system Nedap’s new end-to-end security for its AEOS access control system is designed to protect your physical access control system for cyber-attacks and card cloning. It meets the highest security requirements globally by applying the IT security principles of encryption and strong authentication. It stores DESFire keys and digital certificates safely out of reach of attackers in Secure Access Modules (Sans). This means communication between door controllers and server is secure, which prevents hackers cloning access card or opening doors remotely using unauthorized IP devices. It also allows you to update card keys and certificates securely from one central point. Putting smartphones at the heart of smart security The other key development shown at Intersec was Nedap’s upgraded MACE platform,. This allows you to use your mobile phone as an access card and it can be set up for use with any access control system, saving on cost for physical access cards. It is especially convenient for visitors as it enables the use of QR codes. However, it also makes life much more convenient for employees, who are less likely to lose or forget their smartphone than an access card. And the latest upgrade means organisations can now use MACE to create their own apps. Leading with long-range vehicle identification Nedap’s growth in the Middle East has been strong among governments and the oil and gas industry. In particular, Nedap leads the market in this region for vehicle identification, using long-range readers. Its technology secures the world tallest tower the Burj Khalifa, for example, but is also used for much smaller applications such as parking at residential buildings. Early adopters in the Middle East When asked why the Middle East is renowned for adopting innovation early, Jochem van Ruijven, Managing Director at Nedap in the Middle East says: “People work with real vision in the Middle East and the countries make everything available to turn vision into reality. An example of this is that in 2018 the King Abdullah Economic City in Saudi Arabia and our partner Secutronic won an Intersec award using Nedap’s smart security technology. It’s a gated smart city that’s protected by access control, but where you can travel freely using Nedap’s smart security. The Technology helps rather than hinders you. This is something I haven’t seen anywhere else- where people take a vision like that and invest in it to make it happen. ” Intersec at the centre of security He goes on to explain why it’s so important for Nedap to be at Intersec Middle East: ‘If you want to mean anything in the security business in the Middle East, you have to be at Intersec. For us, Intersec has been incredibly important over the years. We’ve increased our presence here year on year and, as consequence, our business has grown in the region. It’s not just about meeting customers, it’s about networking and exchanging knowledge with your technology partners and system integrators. That’s why we’re here from first thing in the morning to last thing at night.” www.nedapsecurity.com

Legal Technologies unveil 5 things stored on work devices

Legal Technologies unveil 5 things stored on work devices Legal Technologies – the corporate forensic investigation and e-disclosure firm, unveils the top five things employees have stored on their smartphones, revealing the dark side of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD). Proven Legal Technologies’ exercise involved the purchase of four random smartphones from eBay – each from different sellers around the United Kingdom. The content was forensically analysed, revealing a surprising amount of information about previous use, including detectable company data that has previously been ‘wiped’ by their owners. Using personal devices for corporate activity can increase flexibility and efficiency, but Proven Legal Technologies’ research found that employees are storing confidential company information on their smartphones, which poses a serious security threat to businesses. The top five items detected on ‘wiped’ devices include: Documents and files Between the four smartphones analysed, 1,531 deleted files and documents were recovered, many of which were confidential business records and valuable intellectual property. Messages and calls With 1391 calls, 442 SMS, and 438 emails tracked and stored, any fraudster that uncovered the discarded devices would have access to corporate communications and details. With most businesses unaware of what employees send and store on their phones, they will not know what has been passed on with discarded devices. Contact details 54 deleted contact details were located on the smartphones, with a further 10 that had not even been wiped. With some criminals using phone numbers and email addresses to target victims, careless employees could be putting their colleagues and company at risk. Private information The previous owners of the four analysed phones unknowingly made their web searches and location data accessible, with 351 search histories stored, and 525 instances of deleted location recovered. Images 33,535 images were found on the second-hand devices. Individuals could put themselves in danger by storing personal images on their mobiles, and pose serious threats to their company’s reputation by releasing indecent shots into unknown hands – 66% of the pictures recovered had not even been deleted. Phil Beckett, partner at Proven Legal Technologies, comments: “Companies – and individuals – must be aware that pressing delete is simply not enough. Businesses of all sizes are vulnerable to confidential data loss, and given the vast amount of information housed on corporate devices these days, this could result in some very serious problems. “Our research shows that even smartphones that have previously been ‘wiped’ are still at risk from detection. This should act as a call to action for businesses to take precautions around BYOD schemes, and keep a close eye on where confidential is being stored and sent – educating themselves, and employees, of the dangers.” [su_button url=”http://provenlegal.com/” target=”blank” style=”flat” background=”#df2027″ color=”#ffffff” size=”10″ radius=”0″ icon=”icon: arrow-circle-right”]Find out more about Proven Legal Technologies[/su_button]

Checkpoint Systems’ EVOLVE-Store Provides Retailers With Real-Time EAS and ORC Activity Management

Checkpoint Systems, Inc. (NYSE:CKP), today announced EVOLVE-Store a real-time app for smartphones and tablets that supports real-time electronic article surveillance (EAS) and organised retail crime (ORC) event management. The app was developed in response to retail customer requests for an easy means of ensuring that store associates leverage EAS investments appropriately, comply with store shoplifting policies and have EAS systems always turned on and operating properly. Some of the popular features in the EVOLVE-Store app enable retailers to measure and improve consumer conversion rates through real-time visibility of the number of shoppers in stores. The app also measures policy compliance by managing response times to alarm events.  By monitoring, measuring and managing an EAS program, retailers can deter opportunistic shoplifters and ORC activity, reducing shrink and increasing shelf availability, sales and profits. This, in turn, improves staff confidence and engagement with the EAS program, ensuring a significant improvement on the return on investment. Additional popular features include a staff panic alert to request help from associates; an EAS night-save feature to save power when the store is closed; the ability to test, mute or disable EAS systems remotely; and multi-user logins for each smart device. Beyond retailer advantages, shoppers benefit because stores can monitor inventory more closely and replenish “true” out-of-stocks, so merchandise they seek will likely be available on shelves when purchasing online through click and collect, or buying directly in stores. Moreover, studies have shown that shoppers feel safer in monitored retail environments. “Technology should make life easier for both consumers and retailers,” said Uwe Sydon, Senior Vice President of Innovation, Checkpoint Systems. “EVOLVE-Store accomplishes this, with simple implementation and proven loss prevention and merchandise availability benefits that offer advantages to everyone.” EVOLVE-Store is available immediately. About Checkpoint Systems, Inc. (www.checkpointsystems.com) Checkpoint Systems is a global leader in merchandise availability solutions for the retail industry, encompassing loss prevention and merchandise visibility. Checkpoint provides end-to-end solutions enabling retailers to achieve accurate real-time inventory, accelerate the replenishment cycle, prevent out-of-stocks and reduce theft, thus improving merchandise availability and the shopper’s experience. Checkpoint’s solutions are built upon 45 years of radio frequency technology expertise, innovative high-theft and loss-prevention solutions, market-leading RFID hardware, software, and comprehensive labeling capabilities to brand, secure and track merchandise from source to shelf. Checkpoint’s customers benefit from increased sales and profits by implementing merchandise availability solutions to ensure the right merchandise is available at the right place and time when consumers are ready to buy.
