HDCCTV technology shows its strength at ISC West exhibition

HDCCTV technology showed a big step forward during the ISC West show in Las Vegas this week. That’s according to Martijn Kolenbrander, founder of hdcctvmagazine.com. HDCCTV stands for High-Definition Closed Circuit Television. It is an open industrial standard for transmitting high-definition television signal uncompressed and without being encapsulated in TCP/IP. Kolenbrander says only one or two companies were showing HDCCTV equipment at last year’s ISC West but this year there were around 50 companies either showing or announcing devices or systems. HDCCTV seminars organised by the HDcctv Alliance enjoyed healthy attendance as well, Kolenbrander said. There were two sets of seminars: sales training and retrofitting. Sales training concentrated on how to position HDCCTV against IP megapixel cameras. The HDcctv Alliance argues that HDCCTV is easy to install using existing analogue cabling and that the cameras generally perform better than IP megapixel units. Retrofitting was aimed at installers and integrators who want to get to grips with the technology. Kolenbrander says that for technicians trained in coaxial analogue camera installation, HDCCTV is easy to grasp. “You can take all those old analogue cameras and swap them for HDCCTV cameras,” he said. “Use the same cabling and you get HD quality images, so you don’t have to buy expensive IP cameras that don’t perform well at night.” HDcctv Alliance members that were showing products at ISC West included: AltaSens’ image sensors, BlueCaps connectors, Clinton Electronics, Comart System’s, CSST, Pixim, Speco and Stretch. The HDcctv Alliance is forecasting a market share of 10% for HDCCTV products and solutions by 2014. Further information www.hdcctvalliance.com   www.hdcctvmagazine.com

Security Technologies Group announces the availability of a range of specialist PSU’s

Power Supply Units developed specifically for the Access Control industry ensure ease of installation and extended reliability. Security Technologies Group (STG) announce today the availability of a range of Power Supply Units designed and developed with Access Control Installations in mind. Top of the range is the PSUSTG4MB that has been designed to mount and supply power to up to 4 “Mercury Field Panels” of 3 different sizes in any combination.  These panels include single door units, dual door units, 16 input modules and 16 output modules.  OEM’s using these panels include: Lenel Honeywell RS2 Technologies Open Options Keri Systems Identicard DVTel MDI Systems Synergistics Maxxess ID Group Additionally, the PSU can be supplied with a blank mounting plate on which panels from other manufacturers, such as Paxton, can be mounted.  This 12volt DC 8 Amp PSU provides two separate outputs, one maintained and the other switched, typically via a Fire Alarm Panel.  The maintained output typically supplies the access control panel, whilst the switched output will power the locks, so that if the fire alarm is activated, all the power to the locks is dropped, thus allowing free egress, however the maintained supply permanently powers the panels, irrespective of the fire alarm condition.  Both outputs have a fuse board with 8 individually fused outputs therefore ensuring that should a fault occur at any load, only that circuit will be disabled, ensuring that all other outputs will remain active. This unit is equipped with Low Voltage monitoring clean contacts, Mains Failure clean contacts and Battery Low Voltage Disconnect (deep discharge protection). If the unit output voltage falls below approximately 9.5VDC, for example, after an extended mains failure when standby battery has been depleted, the battery terminals will disconnect. When unit voltage recovers (when mains is resumed) the battery terminals will reconnect, allowing battery recharge. This feature allows batteries to provide unit standby without being damaged by deep discharge during extended mains failures. Also available is the same PSU module in a smaller enclosure designed to house 1 x PCB of three different sizes, the PSU and a battery up to 17 Ah. This smaller enclosure with PSU can be ordered as PSUSTG1MB and the small enclosure only as PSUSTG1MB/C.  Both enclosures will house 1 x VRLA Battery, up to 17Ah (Yuasa ‘NPC17-12, or equivalent). Said Denis Kane, Director of STG, “Projects with high controller counts can now be neatly organised, utilising minimal wall space which is exactly what our channel partners have been requesting.” “Distressingly we have seen some installers trying to supply access control panels and locks using the same output on a low specification PSU.  Understandably, having to install only 1 PSU has its advantages, in term of installation times, but is fraught with problems when mixing the electrical surges a lock causes when energising with the supply of data equipment, such as access control panels.  Our units have been designed to address and overcome this issue”. noted Kane. Also in the range is the same power supply unit in a smaller enclosure without any panel mounting facilities (PSU12V8A8OC), but including all of the features detailed above. Completing the range are a 12Volt DC @ 5Amp or 24Volt @ 2.5Amp (PSU12V5A8OC) and a 12Volt DC @ 3Amp or 24Volt @ 1.5Amp (PSU12V3A8OC) units.  Each of the units has 1 maintained and 8 switched outputs, therefore allowing us to cater for all possible situations. About Security Technologies Group Security Technologies Group, headquartered in Hargrave, Northamptonshire, is a supplier of access control peripherals such as readers, credentials, locks, power supplies, etc and is an innovator in the development of advanced Card Management software, which allows the identification of previously ordered credentials, therefore ensuring continuity of supply. Their extensive knowledge of the marketplace and superior technical support capabilities have earned them the reputation as being the experts in the Access Control field, and so the supplier of choice to those looking for these characteristics within their vendors. Raytec’s Urban lighting installed at Oxford university press

Integrated Security Design has become the latest installer to win business by using RAYLUX Urban LED illuminators to target new opportunities in general purpose site lighting. In an eco friendly lighting project recently completed for the historic Oxford University Press building, a range of RAYLUX Urban units were installed as replacements for old-style 70W and 150W sodium lamps in public access areas. Urban now allows Raytec partners not only to provide lighting for security but also lighting for safer environments. The RAYLUX Urban series of multi-purpose White-Light LED illuminators allows installers to deliver lighting not just for the camera, but for any general area lighting requirement. This includes campus lighting, perimeter fence lines, footpaths and car parks. Significant Savings As a result of the new installation, the University Press is set to save 1826 kWh of energy annually and 18260 kWh over the 10 year lifespan of the illuminators. Electricity bills have also been reduced and the maintenance factor has been completely removed (all Raytec products require zero maintenance), delivering cost savings of up to £500 annually and up to £5,000 over the product lifespan. Crucially, the new Urban units deliver improved lighting quality and reliability, providing a safer and more secure area on site. These are all major factors at the core of all Raytec LED lighting technology. “The client looked at a number of different products and chose the RAYLUX Urban lights because they not only fitted in well with the aesthetics at the site but allowed them to achieve their aims of reducing both the running costs and the environmental impact of their lighting” says ISD Director Nicky Stokes. “They have been pleased with the results, and now we’re looking at upgrading the lighting in other parts of their estate.” New Market Opportunities For security installers, the commercial lighting sector offers new and attractive opportunities for diversification, as demand for greener outdoor lighting technology grows. More and more frequently installers provide lighting for surveillance cameras but miss the opportunity to provide general site lighting. This has always been a missed opportunity for security integrators, especially given that the facility manager responsible for general lighting is often the same person security installers work with to design a CCTV system. Multi-Purpose Solution The RAYLUX Urban range satisfies the demand for both camera and commercial lighting. It delivers all of the core technology benefits of Raytec’s Infra-Red and White-Light CCTV lighting technology, typically used in long distance security applications all around the world. Benefits include high performance, low energy, low power consumption, long life (minimum 10 years) and zero maintenance. Designed to bridge the gap between CCTV lighting and general lighting, the RAYLUX Urban series allows security installers to cross over into new markets and deliver an LED White-Light solution for a variety of commercial lighting requirements. RAYLUX urban provides crystal clear, energy saving, quick-start White-Light down onto a scene across a horizontal plane. It delivers excellent colour rendition compared to the dull orange glow provided by many sodium street lamps which are often slow to start up. The range also offers a range of pole mount bracket options, cable management and provides a pleasing aesthetic look which is perfect for commercial lighting. Of course, given Raytec’s heritage the Urban lighting range can also be used improve the performance of any CCTV system during the hours of darkness. Growing Trend “This is an important and growing market,” says Vince Bessell, Raytec Business Development Manager. “There is a real demand for more cost-efficient, ‘greener’ lighting, because organisations are focusing on cutting waste and reducing their CO2 emissions. “For security installers who are used to working with CCTV and security lighting, this new specialist area of energy-efficient, general purpose lighting is well worth developing. It has the real appeal of delivering tangible, measurable energy and cost saving benefits to customers.” Lighting Design Service Raytec can also help with the design and specification of White-Light for general area lighting projects, providing a free site survey and energy saving report, as well as detailed layout plans to highlight the best possible lighting positions and illuminance levels. To arrange your lighting consultation or for more information on RAYLUX Urban please call Raytec on +44 (0) 1670 520055 or email sales@rayteccctv.com
