Extended ACS review deadline closes 7 June

Security-Industry-Authority-LogoThe Security Industry Authority (SIA) has extended the deadline for responses to the 2013 Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS) review until 7 June.

All approved contractors, security suppliers and security buyers are being encouraged by the SIA to participate as the private security industry regulator looks to develop the voluntary scheme.

The review covers how the ACS should change alongside a proposed new regulatory regime.  SIA plans for the future regulation of the private security industry outline a two-phase plan.

Phase one would mean a new regime for business regulation and, by the end of 2013, individuals in designated areas of the private security industry would still need an SIA licence.

The second phase would see changes to the SIA’s status and enhanced enforcement powers – which would require new legislation.

Andrew Shephard, ACS assistant director, said: “We have received a positive number of responses to date; however, we can never have too much feedback.

“The feedback will help us to build an accurate understanding of how the private security industry sees the development of voluntary ACS alongside the new regulatory regime.”

The review survey questionnaires can be found at:
