The Innovator – Axxonsoft

Juri Knjazev, UK Managing Director, Axxonsoft provides his exclusive insight into cloud-based video surveillance and storage solutions, and offers insights into future trends  Axxonsoft has established itself as a significant player in the video surveillance and storage industry. Can you share some of the major trends you’ve observed in the Video Management Software (VMS) space over the past few years?  Certainly. Over the years, we’ve witnessed several noteworthy developments within the industry, with artificial intelligence (AI) emerging as one of the most prominent trends. AI has enabled us to analyse video streams, detect objects and events of interest, and empower security operators to perform their duties efficiently and effectively. However, there are other significant advancements to mention, such as the rise of cloud solutions and VSaaS (Video Management Software as a Service). Many video management software solutions have transitioned to the cloud due to its increasing popularity. This shift is driven by factors like scalability, affordability, and ease of deployment.  Another notable trend is the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) and edge computing. Edge computing is a distributed computing paradigm that brings computation and data storage closer to data sources. It has proven beneficial for video management systems by reducing latency and improving performance. Additionally, IoT devices are entering the ecosystem, introducing a variety of sensors that provide valuable data for VMS applications. Cybersecurity is an ever-present concern in this landscape, and it has been a focus for the past decade. Finally, integrating third-party systems, such as access control and intruder panels, has been an ongoing development.  Let’s take a moment to focus on VSaaS and the cloud-based solutions. Could you elaborate on the advantages that cloud solutions offer compared to traditional video surveillance setups?  In the security industry, we’ve witnessed a significant shift towards cloud-based solutions, primarily because they offer superior scalability. When customer demand for software grows, cloud-based systems can dynamically allocate resources without the need for substantial initial capital investments in hardware. This scalability can lead to cost savings as you can adjust your resources up or down according to your needs. Moreover, cloud solutions eliminate the need for hardware procurement and installation, streamlining deployment.  Additionally, cloud-based systems bring decentralisation, enhancing security and stability. They allow remote access from anywhere in the world, and the geographical dispersion of cloud infrastructure increases resilience against physical disasters and cyberattacks.  One of the primary challenges we’ve encountered in the VMS and PSIM spaces, especially with the rapid evolution of technology, is the need to keep pace with these technological advancements. The AI space, in particular, has been progressing at a breakneck speed, and it has been crucial for us to align our offerings with market demands. To stay competitive, we’ve had to invest significantly in research and development to integrate AI effectively into our portfolio.  Additionally, our customer base is quite diverse, ranging from small companies and individual users to large enterprises, each with unique requirements. Meeting these varied needs can be challenging, but it’s a priority for us. Furthermore, specific verticals we serve are subject to compliance and regulations, adding another layer of complexity.  The growing popularity of cloud solutions has also been a significant factor. We need to ensure that we align our development efforts with this trend to remain competitive.  Storage is a critical concern in video surveillance. How is Axxonsoft addressing the challenges of large-scale storage solutions and requirements, and are there any innovations on the horizon to make this process more efficient?   Addressing the storage challenge involves several strategies. We start by supporting the latest codecs and compression techniques, collaborating closely with hardware and camera manufacturers to reduce data sizes. We integrate devices to work with the latest codecs, including proprietary ones.  Moreover, we explore various storage methods, such as standard hard drives and solid-state drives, depending on customer requirements for latency and data access speed. This approach allows us to optimise performance and cost-effectiveness. For example, we might use solid-state drives for databases and traditional hard drives for video storage.  We’ve also partnered with companies like Seagate to offer cloud storage options. Our system seamlessly integrates with their live cloud offerings, eliminating the need for middleware or additional data processing. This ensures scalability to meet changing customer storage requirements.  In essence, we continuously collaborate with manufacturers to incorporate the best storage solutions into our offerings at all levels, ensuring optimal performance for our customers.  Could you highlight some of the technological innovations in your latest products that differentiate you from competitors?  Let’s start with our investment in in-house AI capabilities. We have a dedicated computer vision team focused on introducing new AI and computer vision functionalities to our products. This investment gives us the flexibility to tailor AI to the specific needs of our clients and partners. While we offer generic AI models, we also provide AI that’s trained to meet unique requirements, which sets us apart in the market. Training these models can be a substantial effort, but our years of work in optimising software and analytics, alongside collaborations with companies like Intel and Seagate, have allowed us to deliver AI solutions quickly and with high performance.  We also harness the power of data for informed decision-making. Analytics, AI, and machine learning generate vast amounts of data and metadata, which we utilise for forensic searches, quick event response, and operator insights. Our approach focuses on extracting meaningful data from video content and combining it with information from other sources, including access control and IoT devices. This data-driven, integrated approach is a hallmark of our offerings… Read more exclusives and news in our latest issue here. Advancis to present new WinGuard module at Intersec 2017

Advancis to present new WinGuard module at Intersec 2017

Advancis to present new WinGuard module at Intersec 2017 Security and building security management specialist Advancis is to present a new control operations module for its PSIM WinGuard system, as well as a WinGuard app at the Intersec 2017 trade show in Dubai. Advancis says the new function module offers a workflow enabling reliable control management by automating control times when the PSIM is coupled with fire alarm systems. The company says it is possible to define single or cyclical time periods during which particular data points (connected sensors and actors) will be placed into a defined target status and monitored. If, after a defined tolerance time, there are deviating states remaining, e.g. due to failed control commands, this will be signaled to the user. In particular, for coupling fire alarm systems to PSIM platforms, control operations are of special relevance. If fire detectors are not disabled or bypassed correctly during maintenance work, false alarms might be triggered. Neither must a planned disabling of fire detectors be forgotten nor the later re-enabling, as a non-detection of a real fire would of course also have drastic impact. In addition to automatization of control times, the control operations module also takes over their administration and documentation. Jan Meiswinkel, CEO of Advancis (headquarters in Frankfurt/Germany), commented: “With this innovative approach, the user in the control center not only profits from optimal support in managing hazardous situations, but also in case of recurring maintenance work. We are looking forward to demonstrate the outstanding advantages in a live control center environment to all interested visitors at Intersec booth no. E12 in hall 2.” Further innovations are the WinGuard Android App as well as the connection of current communication systems (SIP/VoIP). In addition, WinGuard offers increased data and communication security due to most recent encryption technology. Highest reliability is guaranteed thanks to multi-level server redundancy. PSIM Market Predictions for 2016

PSIM Market Predictions for 2016 Regularly recognised by major publications as one of the most influential people in the security sector, Keith Bloodworth, CEO of CNL Software has been a leading visionary within the security industry for over a decade. As a founding partner of Axis Communications, now leading the move to intelligent IP based solutions, he reviews what was happening in the PSIM world in 2015, primarily looking at the security and facilities market and his market predictions for these markets in 2016. The Market, Changing Threats and Changing Players 2015 has seen the rise of more terrorist related tension in the Middle East, in Europe and now in the USA. Together with the understanding of having joined up security systems, it is driving up the need for increased situational awareness. Demand by Government agencies and major global cities for large-scale centralised operations to deal with major incidents is growing rapidly. India alone is planning significant unified projects in 80 cities, while Israel, Turkey and China all have ambitious plans for creation of Safe as well as Smart Cities. Information is a key factor in dealing with issues relating not just to terrorism, but also to natural disasters and day-to-day security. Public safety is high on most political agendas and across the Enterprise markets, physical and logical security is becoming a Board level priority. As the security market continues to grow worldwide, traditional markets such as the US and Western Europe are steadily expanding their capabilities, while newer markets such as China, India and the Middle East are investing at a much faster pace. The new markets are mainly IP based integrated solutions, which has brought about many significant changes, not least of which is a shake-up of the VMS and CCTV camera markets. New product entrants from Asia, China in particular are undermining the traditional camera markets with quality products at lower prices than traditional suppliers. As a result of margin erosion, hardware for most security applications, is rapidly becoming a commodity. Markets have seen significant consolidation of VMS and camera manufacturers. Following on from Tyco acquiring Exacq and Canon acquiring Milestone, M&A highlights in 2015 include the Hanwha partial acquisition of Samsung Techwin, Canon’s acquisition of Axis Communications, Panasonic acquiring VideoIQ, and most recently Flir’s acquisition of DVTEL. The “old” world order in security is gone and a new set of global players are arriving. These players are causing traditional system integrators to compete, with lower margins and more volume as the new way to do business. This, in turn, creates new challenges for the System Integrators to be part of the value chain, as they may have to invest heavily in IT skills to meet any IT/IQ way of working. VMS’s are becoming more intelligent, video analytics are now becoming more feasible as clients begin looking for complete solutions rather than individual products. Complex integration of multiple systems, such as VMS and ACS with other sub-systems like perimeter protection, will demand rules based PSIM solutions to manage increasing volumes of disparate to provide better awareness and management of any situation; providing end users with one well-presented and managed Enterprise solution. 2015, Fastest Year of Growth for CNL Software CNL Software has had a great year, its fastest growth to date, mainly based on industry recognition for our two most valuable assets, our people and our products. With record order levels, the company is expanding fast in order to manage these levels of sales. Our view is this is not a “blip”, but a trend as we are also seeing the highest level of bids and tenders where PSIM is a named component of a mission critical or Enterprise security solution. So much so, we are ramping up our pre-sales capabilities in all regions order to support our channel partners. With new offices in the UAE and the US, these regions have been the catalysts for our most significant growth since inception. Our Center of Excellence based in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi is the largest, most complete, full service team of any PSIM vendor in the region and is still growing rapidly to meet the rising demand for our software in the GCC region. CNL Software’s US office, based in Ashburn, Virginia has also been awarded several large wins in the North American market. This office is based in the Washington DC region and has partners for the homeland defense/state security markets as well as Fortune 100 end users who have moved or are moving to large scale, Enterprise wide, integrated solutions. 2016 Predictions Based on 2015 Projects and Bids Looking forward into 2016, we are seeing greater investment in technology to overcome spending cuts in manpower, particularly in large scale homeland security, state, Government and Police security operations. Strategic partnerships will be a key driver as the public and private sector work ever closer to identify threats, report them and provide their security infrastructure to resolve them. Simply put, most local Governments do not have the financial resources to tackle problems alone so public/private initiatives will have to grow. Closing the Gaps within Intelligence Security Management – With the continually increasing diversity of security threats across the globe, 2016 will see the emergence of closer integration between all systems within the security disciplines that make up intelligence security management. The lack of deep end-to-end integration between the systems driving the Physical, Personnel, Communications, Information systems, Security Classification and Operations Security disciplines highlights the need to challenge the mantra of Situational Awareness and accelerate the demand for Situational Intelligence through integrations focused on empowering counterintelligence techniques in preventing situations from occurring or at least providing effective early warning signals. IT/Hybrid Channel Partners Entering the Market – These will become more prevalent in 2016 and will get their revenues from consulting, software sales and some PSIM implementation. These are more likely to be regional than global to start with, but they represent a new breed of IT/IQ suppliers who are increasingly attractive to end users looking for
