G4S wins British Airways contract for Heathrow and Gatwick security

G4S Aviation Services has been awarded a new three-year contract to provide security solutions to British Airways at Heathrow, the UK’s busiest airport, and Gatwick Airport.

The firm, a leading UK aviation security specialist with over 20 years’ experience of providing solutions to the industry, has won the new three-year contract, starting this month, for a range of security and passenger service solutions.

It covers security services at the two leading airports in the south-east of England and provisions include baggage and cargo screening, document and biometric verification, aircraft protection, firearms handling, incident response services and building and asset security.

The contract will see G4S provide security services to British Airways’ operations at Heathrow Airport Terminals 1, 3 & 5 and the airline’s engineering and cargo facilities at Gatwick Airport.

It is expected that around 600 jobs in London and the south-east will be guaranteed following the award of the new three-year deal.

Adrian Tighe, Managing Director of G4S Transport and Borders (UK), said: “We have been working closely with British Airways for over a decade and are delighted to be continuing our long-standing relationship as an integral part of their security arrangements.

“This contract will allow us to work in partnership with BA developing improved processes and enhancing levels of customer service.”

G4S Aviation Services also operates security provision at some of the UK’s busiest airports, including London Luton, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow, for major global airlines such as Virgin Atlantic, Emirates and Qatar Airways.
