Should we be embracing HD over coax as the CCTV market evolves? With the emergence of HD over coax products hitting the market hard and fast should it be something we embrace? David Davies, Technical Sales Manager, DVS, shares his thoughts.

The UK market is filled with aging analogue CCTV systems, many of which have been installed for many years and it’s not uncommon to see 10 plus year old systems with failing cameras and black and white images.

Generally, the customer finds out after an incident that the system has failed or does not perform as needed so a cost effective and easy to install solution is required. Step forward Turbo HD, a solution that allows a simple upgrade from standard analogue cameras to HD cameras.

With 1080P and 3MP now readily available with a massive range of different models to suit any installation requirement, we can replace the DVR with a Turbo HD DVR and get IP-like images and functionality at a fraction of the cost of replacing cabling and labour required for a full swap over. This ‘replacement’ technology even provides UTC (up the coax ) control to allow existing static cameras to be replaced with PTZ cameras and no additional RS-485 control cables being used and HD Baluns to allow existing analogue CAT5E systems to be swapped over to HD over CAT5E systems.

At DVS we have seen a massive growth into this legacy market and continue to see developments with growing features available, not considering this as a viable option could see you losing out on this market sector. At DVS we stock a large range of these products and foresee this being a big part of our future product line up and success.
