UBM hail new Safe Cities ‘an event fit for its time’

UBM2UBM Live aims to target the growing complexities that urban governments and agencies face through the launch of the new Safe Cities Conference & Exhibition 2014.

The new event is to be held in London on 17-19 June 2014 as part of IFSEC’s move to London’s ExCel centre from next year. UBM claims the Safe Cities Conference & Exhibition will help city governments, agencies and key municipal leaders address global public security and safety challenges.

The rise of Safe Cities was highlighted as one of the top five ‘mega trends’ for the next 10 years in the aerospace, defence and security sectors in a December 2011 Frost & Sullivan report. It claimed that as cities grow in size and number, the challenges to protect citizens become more complex.

Representatives from city authorities, central government departments and the private sector are expected to attend the event, while Safe Cities will also see an emphasis on business continuity to appeal to the commercial sector, senior business leaders and civil resilience.

Safe Cities will provide access to 100 specialist exhibitors and a further 800 relevant technology and solution providers, together with 4,000 dedicated international decision and policy makers. A Keynote Theatre will form part of the event and provide networking opportunities, together with workshops, panel discussions, presentations and live technology and product demonstrations.

Charlie Cracknell, Event Director, said Safe Cities can “build a platform for the future development within this strategically critical space” and assist leaders in the management challenges of potentially critical situations.

He added: “Market niches in public safety spaces such as Counter Terrorism, Cyber Security and Emergency Service can no longer work as isolated fixes for public safety. Public budget constraints and technological approaches will no longer allow these niches to occur in siloed approaches.

“Safe Cities is an event that is fit for its time. It will serve the interest of the whole industry by bringing together leading stakeholders and technology providers to raise the agenda of how to improve public safety.

“Authorities and the private sector are under increasing pressure to collaborate through technology and strategy, increase working and budgetary efficiencies, as well as, preparing against the ever increasing threats of cyber-attacks, terrorism and natural disasters.”
