Dr Orlando Mardner’s influence lies in the professionalisation and human development of the private security industry. His work brings together operational experience, academic practice, leadership and inclusion, allowing him to address security as both a profession and a people-centred discipline. Public profiles describe him as a security scientist, author, educator and reformer focused on the professionalisation of private security, with frontline experience across security operations and a long-standing interest in raising standards.
His work is particularly relevant where workforce development, representation and structured career pathways are concerned. The security industry depends on people operating in complex, pressured and often undervalued roles. Mardner’s contribution is to place those professionals within a wider framework of competence, progression, education and respect.
Reform, representation and pathways
Mardner also serves as a national representative within the Security Industry Federation, leading on diversity, equity and inclusion for Black and minority professionals across the UK private security industry. SIF has described his work as focused on fair representation, minority worker advocacy and the advancement of structured professional pathways for Black, Asian and minority ethnic security professionals.
In 2025, he was named DEI Champion of the Year at the International Security Buyer Awards, recognising his contribution to workplace culture, equity and accountable progression. His wider work has included activity around know-your-rights briefings, case triage, evidence checklists and partnerships with community organisations, faith groups, women’s networks and disability groups. Through this combination of education, advocacy and reform, Mardner is helping push private security towards stronger standards, better representation and a more serious understanding of professional identity.
