Students at the University of East London studying cybersecurity, information security and computer science will have better access to cyber security resources and cheaper certification for such security, following a new partnership between the University and the EC-Council

The International Council of E-Commerce Consultants, also known as EC-Council, is the world’s largest cyber security technical certification body. The agreement with them means that the University in now an EC-Council authorised institution partner with added benefits on its training courses, including student discounts and opportunities for scholarships.

The partnership with the EC-Council has the added advantage of bringing the University closer to becoming the Council’s Accredited Training Centre for the East London Region.

The mission of the EC-Council, which has certified over 200,000 security professionals, is ‘Preparing the next generation of Cybersecurity Experts’.

Dr Ameer Al-Nemrat, Reader in Cyber Security at the University of East London, said, “This is a very good opportunity for our students who are studying for either a BSc in Cyber Security or an MSc in information security and digital forensics, as well as those studying computer science. Through the EC-Council and the University they will be able to become certified at a much cheaper rate for the Council’s world-famous Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), which is a valuable benefit for their careers, as employers require certification. There are also added benefits for students such as free access for seven days after the University’s Open Day promotional taster sessions.

“This partnership with the EC-Council brings the University a step nearer in its Vision 2028 strategic aim to provide industry 4.0 readiness through skills and innovation solutions for our students,” Dr Al-Nemrat added.

The EC-Council operates in 145 countries globally and is the owner and developer of the world-famous Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Computer Hacking Forensics Investigator (C|HFI), Certified Security Analyst (ECSA), License Penetration Testing (Practical) programs, among others.

Some of the benefits of the partnership include:

  • Student discount rates and exam eligibility (Post full series completion)
  • Use of EC-Council official logos and marks
  • Faculty discounts and scholarships
  • Exclusive launch, sneak-peak, and beta testing opportunities
  • Easy, adoptable solutions and platforms (iLabs, Vital Source, etc.)
