GMB concerned by G4S announcement on proposed branch closures and redundancies for staff working in cash operations

The cash service business seems to be disappearing as more electronic payments methods are being used worldwide, says GMB London
GMB, the union for staff at G4S, are concerned by the security company’s announcement of a major restructure of their Cash business, with a number of potential branch closures and redundancies, including Enfield, being highlighted for closure.
G4S announced that the review would result in approximately 138 redundancies in total, however GMB believes 645 jobs are at risk nationally with 109 at risk across the London Region.
Meetings on 9 January 2019 marked the beginning of the formal process of consultation with the GMB with a view to reaching agreement about the proposals.
G4S confirmed that the company had undertaken a review of their operations with a view to ‘optimising our network for the future based on the changes in the market and our strategic plan’.
Paul Meddes, GMB Regional Organiser said:
“This announcement is of great concern to the GMB and our members. The cash service business seems to be disappearing as more electronic payments methods are being used worldwide.
“GMB will ensure that G4S follow all the agreed procedures and memorandum agreement.
“We will also endeavour to ensure that all members are given every opportunity to apply for other roles within G4S. The briefing from G4S suggested there may be job opportunities at Park Royal, Nine Elms and Harlow branches.
“GMB will be supporting our members through this process and will arrange site visits in due course.”
