SimonsVoss unveils FORTLOX Series

SimonsVoss has launched the FORTLOX Series, a new mechatronic locking solution designed to strengthen physical security and simplify access management across critical infrastructure, utilities and distributed estates.

Developed for environments where secure, traceable access is essential, the FORTLOX Series combines a battery-free FORTLOX Cylinder with the multifunctional FORTLOX Key. The system enables programmable digital access that can be managed centrally or locally using dedicated software and a mobile application.

Designed for remote and critical assets

The FORTLOX Series has been developed for organisations responsible for securing geographically dispersed sites and infrastructure where traditional mechanical key management can present operational and security challenges.

Unlike conventional mechanical systems, the FORTLOX Key performs multiple functions, acting as a programmable digital key, active transponder, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) communication interface and, where required, an RFID credential.

The battery-free cylinder is powered directly by the key, eliminating the need for battery replacement while providing a weather-resistant solution suitable for both indoor and outdoor environments.

Streamlining access management

The system enables organisations to issue, amend or revoke access permissions remotely, reducing the need for on-site visits while maintaining a complete audit trail of authorised entry.

Its digital management capabilities are intended to improve operational efficiency while strengthening security, particularly for infrastructure operators managing large numbers of dispersed facilities.

Typical applications include data centres, telecommunications infrastructure, electrical substations, cable distribution cabinets, server cabinets, EV charging infrastructure and other technical installations where access is infrequent but highly security sensitive.

Supporting operational resilience

Bruce Donald, UK and Ireland Country Manager at SimonsVoss, said: “Many organisations responsible for critical infrastructure and distributed estates are still relying on traditional mechanical locking systems that can be difficult to manage at scale.

“FORTLOX has been developed to provide a more flexible and resilient approach to access control, helping organisations improve security, simplify access management and reduce maintenance requirements without major disruption to existing infrastructure.

“The ability to centrally manage permissions, quickly issue temporary access rights and retrofit existing cylinders makes the system particularly valuable for facilities and infrastructure operators managing multiple locations.”

Integration with existing platforms

The FORTLOX Series has been designed as an extension of the SimonsVoss System 3060 platform and integrates with existing SimonsVoss technologies, including the Digital Cylinder AX, SmartHandle AX Advanced and SmartRelay 3.

By building on the existing ecosystem, organisations can expand digital access control capabilities without replacing established infrastructure, supporting phased upgrades across complex estates while maintaining compatibility with current systems.
