ASIS International 63rd annual ASIS Seminar and Exhibits already creating a buzz

The 63rd Annual ASIS Seminar and Exhibits, scheduled from 25-28 September in Dallas, Texas, USA, is already creating a palpable buzz across the profession, and the early bird deadline to register ends 30 June. ASIS International Director of Communications, Peggy O’Connor reports.

The annual “must attend” event on every security practitioner’s calendar happens every fall and the event features a revamped education lineup, a “learning lab” focused exhibit hall, while strong partnerships with affiliated associations, including ISSA and InfraGard, who are contributing education sessions to the program, and countless opportunities for learning and relationship-building, will provide attendees with a comprehensive approach to managing risk.

For security practitioners outside the United States, ASIS 2017 is participating in the U.S. Department of Commerce International Buyer Program, which means if they travel with a delegation through a local U.S. consulate or embassy, they can take advantage of special registration prices and benefits. Brochures are available in six languages for those who want to learn more.ASIS International 63rd annual ASIS Seminar and Exhibits already creating a buzz

There are many significant changes to this year’s program, including the schedule of events. ASIS 2017 will officially kick off on Sunday, 24 September, with an Opening Night Celebration at Gilley’s Dallas. This festive event will bring thousands of security professionals from across the globe together for a truly Texas experience.

Charles E. Andrews, CPP, Texas native and director, ASIS International Board of Directors, said:

“The opening night celebration will be unlike anything you’ve experienced in the past. There will be mechanical bull riding, armadillo races, live music, and of course, plenty of old-fashioned fun. We look forward to welcoming attendees to Texas and showcasing what makes our state so special.”

The exhibit hall will be open Tuesday, 26 September, through Thursday, 28 September. That leaves a full day for uninterrupted education on Monday. Front loading education creates more exclusive hours for attendees to explore the thousands of innovative security services and solutions available in the exhibit hall later in the week.

The President’s Reception also moves to a new night this year—Wednesday, 27 September—at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. Always one of the most anticipated events at Seminar, this year’s party offers attendees the opportunity to participate in on-the-field games and drills, tour the locker rooms, and relive the excitement of the week with plenty of food, fun, and revelry.

A dynamic line-up of keynote speakers is just the beginning of the most comprehensive education program in Seminar history. The Hon. George W. Bush, will open the event with a Monday morning keynote sponsored by Altronix. The 43rd President of the United States and author of the bestselling memoir Decision Points (2010)—a candid account of the defining decisions in his presidency and personal life—will share insights on his eight years in the White House, his experiences with world leaders, the nature of public leadership and decision making, and his perspective on current domestic and international issues.

Author Scott Klososky will discuss “The Technology Integration of Man” during his Tuesday morning keynote remarks, and he will lead several education sessions that afternoon, which will delve deeper into the integration of technology in our lives—from wearables and implantables to the rapid growth of AI and augmented reality. On Wednesday morning, Boston Marathon bombing investigation leads Edward F. Davis, III, former Boston police commissioner, and Rick DesLauriers, former special agent in charge of the Boston FBI, will offer a special presentation, “Remembering Patriots Day: The Hunt for the Tsarnaev Brothers and the True Meaning of #BostonStrong”.

ASIS International 63rd annual ASIS Seminar and Exhibits already creating a buzzASIS International 2017 President, Thomas J. Langer, CPP, commented:

“Our keynotes have a wealth of information and insight to share that make their presentations can’t-miss events. Their remarks will set the tone for each day—linking the evolving security profession to current/future technological opportunities and helping to frame the bigger conversations taking place throughout the week. Namely, how we should effectively collaborate across the security spectrum to advance a holistic approach to managing risk.”

The ASIS conference program includes more than 180 education sessions featuring new learning formats, prioritizing interactive programs and seating arrangements to better engage and enliven audiences. Each session will be categorized by experience level (new to industry, mid-career, advanced, CSO-level), so attendees will know which ones are the best fit.

Sample session topics include Lessons Learned from a Paris Armed Robbery, Security Risks in the European Migrant Crisis, International Perspectives on Security Challenges, Security Risk Assessment After Charlie Hebdo, and Security in High Risk Locales.

ASIS will bring even more value to Expo-Only attendees with multiple theatres on the show floor featuring education and product demonstrations, technology showcases, and a networking happy hour. There will be more than two dozen 25-minute “impact sessions” held on the exhibit floor covering topics from data protection and BYOD policies to conducting Red Team exercises, travel risk, and campus and facility security. The exhibit floor will also feature a central hub for all things ASIS, with the latest information on certifications, standards and guidelines, education, chapters, councils, global events, membership, and more.

For the second year, InfraGard will co-locate its Annual Congress and Conference at ASIS 2017. And for the first time, Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) will develop 20 cybersecurity sessions. In addition, ISSA will host organizational meetings and social events for its members.

“Partnerships, collaboration, security solution excellence, and renewing longstanding relationships with peers from across the profession are all hallmarks of our Society and core to the ASIS 2017 program,” says Langer. “This event embodies our profession’s shared mission—across practitioners and service and technology providers—to making the world a safer place to live, work, and play. It’s this dedicated, global community that comes back year after year that makes this event so special.”
