BSIA outlines access control benefits to retailers

A new guide to the benefits of access control security systems in the retail sector has been launched by the British Security Industry Association (BSIA).

Recent research from the organisation found 85% of members had continued with or improved their private security measures in 2012, with 65% predicting a further increase in retail security over the coming 12 months.

The new free guide from the BSIA identifies how access control systems can help retail businesses to manage the constant threats from shoplifting or organised crime – which can increase when mid-season sales brings in higher footfall.

Included within the guide are case studies showcasing how retailers can utilise access control technologies within time and attendance management and fire roll call technology, while also integrating the solutions with other security systems.

Mike Sussman, chairman of the BSIA’s Access Control Section, said utilising access control security systems offer a “vast” number of benefits to the retail sector.

“Retail environments have a number of factors to consider when securing their premises – including valuable stock, cash and a number of employees working varied shift patterns,” he stated.

“Access control systems can provide reliable and cost effective solutions to ensure that these goods and people are kept secure.”
