Control room furniture for First Direct Arena, Leeds

thinking space security control room furnitureThe city of Leeds, with a population of over 725,000, can boast as being the third largest city in the United Kingdom…and can now boast a brand new concert and events arena.

The arena has been developed, after public appeal, by Leeds City Council.  It has created a 13,500 capacity sports and events venue, with an expected revenue of £25 million a year for the city’s’ economy.  As part of the new development, Thinking Space was awarded the contract working for security integrator Reflex Systems to supply furniture for two control rooms; a general security/CCTV control room for the venue, and a control room for the overseeing of events.

In particular, Thinking Space designed and manufactured an unusually shaped control console for the events control room, following the shape of the room.  Mounted on a raised dais, the console ensures maximum viewing angles whilst accommodating fixed and temporary equipment. Specially controlled lighting has been installed in the room, as no lighting must escape into the arena.  Thinking Space provided Novus LED desk lamps for operators to use when under controlled lighting conditions.

The arena was officially opened by Sir Elton John earlier in the month, having previously been road tested by Bruce Springsteen. Giving a two plus hour concert, Sir Elton acknowledged the crowd, saying “it’s great to play at this wonderful new place”.
