Elmdene Shortlisted in 2014 PSI Premier Awards

PSI Premier AwardsInnovative electronic security and fire products manufacturer, Elmdene International Limited – a subsidiary of Potter Electric Signal, LLC – announces that it has secured a finalist spot in the prestigious PSI Premier Awards 2014. This year the company has been singled out for its Power over Ethernet (PoE) standby devices, in the extremely competitive Technology Innovation category.

The PSI Premier Awards are organised by UK magazine PSI (Professional Security Installer) with online voting now under way to select the ultimate category winners at: www.psimagazine.co.uk/awards2014.php. The final results will be announced during an awards ceremony at Brocket Hall, Welwyn Garden City, on the 17th July.

Looking in more detail at Elmdene’s industry-leading PoE standby power supplies, the new solutions fall into two specific areas. The first are mains powered, producing 48V dc. These neat and compact units are designed to power PoE Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) devices such as PoE injectors or switches (dc powered) and feature an industry standard 12V dc lead acid battery to provide battery backed 48V dc power.

The other group of PoE devices from Elmdene (PoE and PoE+) receive their power remotely from PoE meaning a mains connection is not required at the installation point. Consequently, with local battery back-up, Elmdene says that they are ideally suited to support vital systems that other existing options struggle to support in a cost effective way. This, Elmdene reckons, also ties-in with the move towards edge-based CCTV recording, alleviating concerns over malicious damage to cables or unplanned power failures.

POE1230-CSaid Ian Moore, Managing Director at Elmdene International Limited:”We are delighted to have been short-listed in the PSI Premier Awards 2014 for our Power over Ethernet (PoE) standby devices especially as the awards are actually voted for by UK security installers themselves. This comes on the back of being a finalist in the Benchmark Innovation Awards 2014 held at IFSEC 2014 for our POE1230-C, a PoE-powered PSU [Power Supply Unit] with a battery back-up capability.”

“We have introduced our PoE solutions to remedy what we see as a serious shortfall in PoE standby power provision. It needs to be remembered that, no matter how good they might be, PoE-driven access control systems still require some form of back-up power to facilitate door control into and out of premises should there be an emergency.

“In the case of CCTV cameras, again constant operation really is a necessity. This is even more critical given the roll-out of smart IP cameras as part of a perimeter protection design. Sadly, many CCTV cameras sitting at the edge on today’s sites are unlikely to be covered by emergency generators.”
