eyevis Video Wall plays key role in protecting Holy Shrine

24/7 Control Room Provides Security Against Threat of Terrorist Attacks

Visitors to a shrine considered one of the world’s holiest and most sacred places by Shia Muslims are being protected by a security system featuring a high-resolution eyevis video wall.

Among the reasons eyevis was chosen for the 24/7 video control room was because it was the only supplier able to provide the DLP solution at 1920 x 1200 pixels.

The Holy Shrine of Al-Attaba Al-Abbasiya in Karbala, Iraq, is dedicated to Imam Al-Abbas and is visited by millions of people every year.

It is manned by more than 5,000 professional staff and tens of thousands of volunteers, who provide protection and security against the daily threat of terrorist attacks.

All the video analysis information, alarms, live video cameras and playback are shown on a video wall made up of 27 eyevis EC-56-LWXT-1000 DLP rear-projection cubes.

The eyevis EC-56-LWXT-1000 is a modular rear-projection cube with a screen diagonal of 56 inches and WUXGA resolution (1920 x 1200 pixels).

It uses innovative Cluster-LED technology for illumination and is especially designed for applications which require a reliable 24/7 operation.

The video wall was installed together with an eyevis ACT-CommBoard for auto colour tracking, eyeCON V4 complete software solution for an easy control of large screens and the netPIX 4800 video wall management system.

Curved eyevis Video Wall Installed on Rail System to Allow Maintenance

Hundreds of CCTV cameras have been installed at the shrine, along with a powerful and intelligent video analysis system that allows facial recognition, people counting, crowd management, abandoned object detection, vehicle licence plate recognition and driver match for vehicles entering the area.

eyevis worked on the project with video analytics experts iOmniscient and Al-Moashour Co, an information technology pioneer in Iraq, to deploy a robust system which meets the customer’s stringent requirements.

The curved eyevis video wall was installed on a rail system that is moved using a servo motor to allow maintenance.

Video Wall Delivers Maximum Resolution And Reliability

Project Manager at Al-Moashour Eng. Firas Abbas said:

“Al-Attaba holy shrine is a very crowded place. It was very difficult to find a system that could work in this environment and still give good results with acceptable accuracies. We needed a large video wall to be installed in an area with limited space and capable of displaying hundreds of cameras. We required the video wall to be movable because the area where it is sited does not allow for maintenance. We required maximum resolution and reliability and eyevis was the only supplier able to supply the DLP solution at 1920 x 1200 pixels.”

Christoph Pfäffle, eyevis International Sales Manager said:

“The shrine provides services to tens of thousands of visitors every day and at special times each year it receives about 15 -20 million people within a two-week period. Protecting and providing security for this huge number of people in a small area is a very big challenge so we are delighted that eyevis has been selected as having the products and technology best able to provide such a vital service.”
