Intersec 2016 Day 2 News

Day 2 of the 18th Intersec in Dubai saw another very busy day. The organisers, Messe Frankfurt Middle East, haven’t got an official visitor number yet but anecdotally from the exhibition floor the Security Media Publishing team have been given the impression by many exhibitors that visitor numbers have been very good and many of the visitors are looking to buy solutions so the “quality” of the visitors has been reported as very good.

John Davies from TDSi said, “One hundred and forty three British Companies are at the show and the space taken by those companies had increased by 37 percent from last year. This is indicative of how important the Middle East region is for British companies.” He added, “By far the largest number of visitors are from the UAE and the second largest we have seen are from Iran.”

The Dubai Police showed off their BMW i8 super fast plug in hybrid electric interceptor, the envy of all traffic cops.

Novel solutions abound this year and yesterday we reported on the Unmanned Remote Ground Vehicle providing a powerful firefighting capability distributed by TANKO from Kuwait and built by Luff in Austria. Today we saw a proper “tank” converted to a fire-fighting vehicle by NAFFCO in Dubai giving “fighting” a fire a whole new meaning.

James Ritchie from Veracity, based in Scotland told us about their patented energy saving, cost effective and unique video storage solution. But the award for novel kit would go to the New Zealand based Martin Aircraft Company with their one man JETPAK shown for the first time at the show. This will be one device everyone will want, able to carry its pilot for 30 mins flight time. The security and safety applications are clear but what a way to avoid the morning rush hour traffic!
