Lisburn Mayor visits Assa Abloy Security Doors

The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Thomas Beckett visited the Lisburn site of ASSA ABLOY Security Doors, a UK division of ASSA ABLOY, the global leader in door opening solutions.

Based in Ferguson Drive Lisburn, ASSA ABLOY Security Doors employs 75 people locally to design, manufacture and install bespoke high performance steel doors and windows.

The ASSA ABLOY group employs 45,000 worldwide and is currently ranked in the top 100 most innovative companies by Forbes. The Lisburn division has an impressive portfolio of projects including The Shard, the Olympic Stadium, Heathrow Airport and multiple sites across London Underground.

The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Thomas Beckett, said:

“Firstly, I would like to congratulate ASSA ABLOY Security Doors on their success on becoming a market leader in their field.

“ASSA ABLOY delivers an important role within the city; not only raising the profile of the Lisburn area across the world but also providing employment and investment for the local economy.”

Managing Director at ASSA ABLOY Security Doors, Brian Sofley, said:

“We are extremely proud of our facilities here in Lisburn and delighted to open our doors to the Mayor along with other Council representatives.

“This visit was the perfect opportunity for us to provide a comprehensive overview of our business portfolio; in terms of structure, both regionally and internationally, achievements to date and aspirations for future development across the globe.

“We are proud to be supporting the local Lisburn community, through apprenticeships and employment.”

Chairman of the Development Committee, Alderman Allan Ewart, who also visited the factory, said: ““It gives me great pleasure to commend the management and staff who have been a part of the company’s development and triumph into a recognised world leading business.

“The setup is absolutely fantastic here and it is great to see a local company represented in all major regions, in both mature and emerging markets, with leading positions in much of Europe, Middle East and Africa.”

“I sincerely hope ASSA ABLOY Security Doors continue to thrive and successfully complete their current and up and coming projects.”

ASSA ABLOY Security Doors has recently made a significant investment in a new manufacturing process that will improve lead times for customers, have positive impact on the environment and further enhance product quality.

Using the auto-feed and seamless punching and folding capabilities of the Salvagnini CNC equipment, combined with a fast, heat cured bonding system, ensures improved precision and accuracy, reduces manual handling of products and improves the throughput time of products.

The improved process is being used at the Lisburn facility for the production of existing products, but the full impact of the investment will be seen through the launch of a new door design that incorporates a full interlocking seam on all sides of the leaf. The new door platform reduces the manufacturing time and improves the aesthetic qualities of the door leaf; by removing unsightly spot-weld marks. The new design also eliminates processes such as welding and grinding, significantly improving the environmental impact.
