Quantum StorNext file system and data management named Network Computing Product of the Year finalist

Latest industry accolade reflects unique value StorNext delivers for managing unstructured data in highly demanding enterprise environments

Quantum Corp. (NYSE: QTM) announced that Network Computing readers have nominated StorNext 5 scale-out file system and multi-tier data management software as a finalist in the Storage Product of the Year category for the 2017 Network Computing Awards.

Long used throughout the media and entertainment industry for high-performance storage and large-scale archive of video content, StorNext® is increasingly being deployed in other highly data-intensive use cases, including technical computing and big data analytics in imaging environments such as genomics, academic research and video surveillance.

The power of StorNext for managing unstructured data

StorNext has been deployed in more than 120,000 clients around the world, providing a unique combination of:

  • The fastest streaming file system performance.
  • Automated, policy-based data management for cost-effective tiering across primary disk, object storage, tape and the cloud.
  • Heterogeneous OS support (Windows, Linux, UNIX, MacOS).
  • Multi-protocol support, including Fibre Channel, Ethernet, InfiniBand, iSCSI, NFS, SMB/CIFS and S3.

Last December, Quantum announced significant new enhancements in StorNext release 5.4. They include the ability to integrate existing public cloud storage accounts and third-party object storage — starting with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, NetApp StorageGRID, IBM Cleversafe and Scality RING — as tiers in a StorNext-unified namespace. Another new feature provides embedded application deployment in StorNext appliances to simplify integration with asset manager, data management and data sharing applications.

Network Computing Awards nominations

The Network Computing Awards invite readers to nominate companies, products or services in various categories that have made a lasting impression over the year. Quantum was one of eight finalists to be chosen from top storage companies. The awards recognise the hardware, software and services which have most impressed the readers of Network Computing, the UK’s longest established computer networking publication. Awards will be presented on Thursday 30th March at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms, London.

Molly Rector, vice president, global marketing, Quantum says:

“Advances such as 4K video cameras, higher-resolution microscopes and genome sequencers, and IoT sensor technologies and the opportunity to analyse and leverage the massive amounts of unstructured data they generate have resulted in significant storage challenges. StorNext has been helping users overcome these challenges in the most demanding environments for many years, providing a multi-tier, scale-out architecture that delivers the optimal combination of performance, capacity, access and cost to support an organisation’s business objectives.”
