In June 2018 the fourth Annual Upstream West Africa Summit will take place, leading to thousands of industry professionals descending on Senegal to share and discuss their knowledge on a broad range of topics – from solutions on deepwater developments, to upstream software solutions.
Coincidentally, the event will also play host to the No.1 Annual B2B Upstream Oil & Gas event, which will bring together the senior decision makers from across the prolific West Africa region.
Since the discovery by Tullow Oil in 2007 of the Jubilee Field in Ghana, the Upstream sector has refocused it’s efforts to explore similar areas around the entire West and North West African coast. What this represents is serious risks to people, property and wildlife unless critical infrastructure sites can be adequately and safely secured.
As the region invests further in its development, continuing on a path of entrepreneurial spirit, it’s worth remembering that without adequate perimeter protection, there exists the potential for catastrophe.
Likewise, as cyber attacks continue to emerge and hackers and phishers adopt more sophisticated methods of disrupting business, the possibility for damage to critical infrastructure projects prevails (and that isn’t even taking into consideration possible ‘insider threats.’)
While sensible investment in the African economy is to the benefit of the continent and the world, only by implementing solid security methods can project leaders shrug off the sense of foreboding that comes with assembling insecure sites.
