The editorial director of Security Media Publishing, Tom Reeve, is stepping down to pursue an opportunity with another publication.
In his time at SMP, Tom edited a number of security industry flagship titles including CCTV Image, SecurityNewsDesk and SecurityMiddleEast.com.
Prior to editing these titles, he had been the editor of Security Management Today (SMT), SecurityPark.net and Security Voice (on behalf of the Joint Security Industry Council).
He has also produced a number of news and corporate videos in the security industry including six daily video news reports and a showreel for Intersec 2013 and corporate videos for organisations such as the BSIA and SSAIB.
He is leaving to join the cybersecurity specialist SC Magazine (UK), published by Haymarket Media. His last day at SMP is 27 March.
“It’s been a real pleasure working with the team at Security Media Publishing,” Tom said. “We’ve been able to launch an innovative print publication into the security industry which is going from strength to strength, increasing in size and pages of advertising even as the commercial market becomes increasingly competitive. Meanwhile, the online publications, SecurityNewsDesk.com and SecurityMiddleEast.com, are growing in terms of visitor traffic, newsletter subscriptions, social media activity and advertising.”
Editorial integrity has always been important to him. “First with SecurityNewsDesk and then with the launch of SecurityMiddleEast.com, we have shown that news-led publications are very popular in the security industry,” he said. “As the security industry becomes increasingly professional, there is a greater demand for quality news reporting.”
Tom has established himself as a heavyweight journalist within the physical security industry. He developed a particular speciality in CCTV and has written for national publications on the subject and been interviewed on BBC radio and TV.
“I love the security industry – it’s a fascinating subject, filled with interesting people, technology and political issues. It’s ever evolving and that’s one of the things that has kept my attention over the years,” he said.
In the past few years, Tom has become increasingly interested in cybersecurity. “With our increasing reliance on complex IT systems, IP-enabled devices and the Internet of Things, cyber has become the new frontier and by moving to SC Magazine, I can really focus in on that one subject in a way that I couldn’t at SecurityNewsDesk and SecurityMiddleEast which have a much broader remit to cover all aspects of physical security – as well as cyber,” he said.
“As I leave Security Media Publishing, I’m proud of what we have accomplished with the launch of SecurityNewsDesk and SecurityMiddleEast.com. They are growing quickly and solidly and establishing a global footprint, and I wish the directors and staff every success in continuing on that trajectory,” Tom said.
