Superyacht security: MAST participated at the Monaco Yacht Show

MAST, the international maritime risk management company, has attended the prestigious superyacht event, the Monaco Yacht Show (MYS), which was from 28 September to 1 October 2016.

The MYS was attended by 34,000 people from around the world including private yacht owners, prospective owners and decision-makers from leading companies in the yachting and luxury sectors.

MAST, who within the team possess years of security experience, develop cutting-edge security technology to enhance security awareness on superyachts, underpinned by practical experience, delivering maritime security worldwide.

The safety of those onboard a superyacht should be of paramount importance and a number of incidents over the past few years have shown that vessels can be susceptible to attacks by criminals.

Phil Cable, CEO of MAST, said:

“The Monaco Yacht Show is one of the industry’s preeminent events where designers and owners can come together to showcase their superyachts and discuss important developments over the past year. How best to secure a superyacht is becoming an increasingly important theme within the industry – and for good reason.

“Often families travel together with guests and many valuable or sentimental items are kept onboard, not to mention the cost of the vessel itself, making a safe and secure environment absolutely essential. Whilst a superyacht does not look out of place in Monaco, in other places around the world – such as the Caribbean or South East Asia – they can stand out and become an attractive and lucrative target for opportunistic criminals.”

With a proven record of delivering security solutions in complex environments, MAST specialises in providing innovative responses to a wide range of maritime security challenges to the superyacht community. The bespoke solutions are tailored to match the unique requirements of yachts and utilise a feature rich platform which allows for holistic risk management of all aspects of security and provides users with intuitive solutions for risk management on board.

Cable continued:

“Utilising technology and integrating security systems into a superyacht’s design are often the most effective way of ensuring the safety of those onboard. An integrated locking system coupled with motion detection, intelligent lighting and CCTV Perimeter Protection Systems are recommended, as well as the use of professional security teams for security support both onboard and ashore. It is of course essential that any form of security is discreet and allows both owner and guest to enjoy their lifestyle on the superyacht uninterrupted, but just as vital is that they are effective in protecting those in need if called upon.”

Whilst attending, MAST will also be raising awareness of the need for counter-piracy, close protection, port protection alongside technical security audits, ISPS compliance, physical security services and training.
