Synology to discuss how customer expectations challenge the IP Industry
Smart Home and Smart Building are popular futuristic concepts which have not been clearly defined yet. Both are pretty broad terms, covering a huge number of connected gadgets, systems and appliances that do a wide variety of different things.

One one hand, video surveillance cameras get smarter due to more powerful CPU capabilities. So
analytics can run on the camera (edge) instead of a server. This requires hardware and software to adapt. On the other hand, Smart Home and Smart Building are embracing the Internet of Things with new smart devices like doors, windows, fire alarms. The evolving concepts imply an opportunity to monitor and manage the systym remotely when there are no people in the building after hours.
The current trend is the increasing need for multifunctional systems that, apart from storing video surveillance archives to be accessed remotely, can also handle smart home and smart building data.
