OPTEX specialises in intrusion detection solutions, pioneering the use of new technologies for security applications. For instance, OPTEX was the first company to use LiDAR (laser technology) for security, launching the first REDSCAN models in 2009. The introduction of LiDAR transformed the reliability and accuracy of detection systems. Over the years, LiDAR has been continually upgraded and new versions launched. OPTEX’s LiDAR products continue to be applauded for their detection accuracy today.
But beyond LiDAR, OPTEX has developed a wide portfolio of solutions to cater to different customer needs – including fibre optic and passive and active infrared detection technology including a variety of hardwired and wireless outdoor and indoor solutions. OPTEX’s perimeter security solutions are respected globally, with applications deployed at some of the world’s most critical security sites, including datacentres, underground rail and national infrastructure to high-end retail and logistics sites.
It also began experimenting with new technologies to further reduce false alarms which led to the launch of the Super Multidimensional Analysis (SMDA) algorithm in 2010. SMDA is a digitally enhanced signal recognition logic that negates false alarms by enabling the sensor to learn from its environment and then ignore ‘normal’ changes in light and temperature, vegetation sway or small animals, for instance. The software has set a new standard in the industry and has been incorporated into all OPTEX PIR motion detectors ever since.
