A new report claims the rates of robbery and burglary in Australia have dropped by a half since the turn of the century. Figures show that robbery fell by 49.1 per cent and burglary reduced by 57.3 per cent.
Newcastle City Council has admitted that a number of CCTV cameras have been turned off for months, possibly years, after the local newspaper revealed that a camera had failed to record a cash point robbery.
The number of crimes recorded by police in England and Wales fell by 6% in the year to end of December 2010.
All types of recorded crime fell, except sexual offences and some types of theft, up by 3% and 1% respectively.
