The International Professional Security Association (IPSA) is one of the UK’s leading professional membership organisations for the private security sector, championing the people and organisations that help keep our communities, businesses and public spaces safe.
With more than 9,000+ Associate members, IPSA represents and supports a sector that employs around 460,000 frontline security professionals across the UK. Our purpose is clear: to raise professional standards, give security professionals a stronger voice and ensure the vital contribution of the private security sector is recognised.
Representing the Industry’s Voice
A key priority for IPSA is raising public trust and changing perceptions of the security industry. Through our United by Public Trust campaign, IPSA is working to challenge outdated perceptions of private security and highlight the professionalism, skills, responsibility and human contribution of the people who protect others every day.
The campaign recognises that public confidence matters. Security professionals are often among the first people members of the public encounter in major venues, workplaces, transport hubs, retail environments and events. IPSA believes the public should understand the professionalism behind the uniform and the important role security officers play in keeping communities safe.
IPSA is committed to putting people at the heart of security. From frontline security officers to business leaders, trainers, consultants and corporate partners, we provide a professional community where knowledge, experience and best practice can be shared.
Our work spans professional development, industry engagement, education, networking, recognition and advocacy. Through events, campaigns, partnerships and thought leadership, IPSA creates opportunities for members to connect, learn and influence the future of our profession.
A Sense of Belonging
A key priority is ensuring security is a career where everyone can belong, develop and thrive. IPSA continues to lead conversations around equality, diversity, inclusion and belonging, including through Women in Protective Services (WIPS), which champions women across security and protective services, strengthens female leadership and creates opportunities for connection, development and progression.
IPSA is also proud to collaborate with the LGBTQ+ community and organisations across the security industry, supporting greater visibility, representation and belonging through industry engagement, Pride initiatives and partnerships.
IPSA also celebrates the extraordinary contribution of the frontline workforce through initiatives including International Security Officer Day (ISOD) and wider recognition programmes.
As the security landscape evolves, IPSA is focused on professionalism, skills, technology, workforce wellbeing, inclusion and public confidence.
IPSA is more than a membership organisation. We are a professional community, a collective voice and a platform for progress – united in strengthening our profession, championing its people and building greater public trust in the security industry.
