Explore advanced high-mount outdoor detection designed to reduce nuisance alarms with the OPTEX TXI Series
OPTEX has developed the TXI Series to help installers protect the external boundaries of residential and commercial buildings. Designed to create a narrow, controlled detection curtain along a façade, the series supports earlier identification of intruders before they reach the building.
High-mount outdoor detection presents a particular challenge: balancing reliable human detection while reducing nuisance alarms. With detectors often angled down towards ground-level activity, pets, small wildlife and environmental movement may increase the risk of nuisance alarms. Reducing sensitivity can help address this issue, but may also affect the reliability of human detection. The TXI Series has been designed to balance both requirements.

The solution combines OPTEX’s patent-pending Triple AND Logic with Super Multidimensional Analysis (SMDA) digital processing. Triple AND Logic uses three independent sensing areas to form three detection zones, with an alarm generated when all three zones detect simultaneously. SMDA analyses multiple characteristics of detected movement, helping the detector distinguish environmental noise and maintain stable performance as conditions change.
The TXI Series can be used across a range of applications, including ground-floor perimeters, balconies, warehouses, offices and retail sites. Installers can select a mounting height between 2.2m and 4m, with coverage extending to 12m x 2.4m. High-level mounting can also help keep the detectors discreet and less exposed to tampering or vandalism. An optional look-down zone can also be enabled or disabled to suit the requirements of each installation and provide additional protection around high-mount applications.
Installation Ease
Installation is supported by supplied brackets for secure mounting and concealed wiring. For sites that require further flexibility, the optional TXI-BKT ceiling/wall-mount bracket allows adjustments to the detector’s angle and gradient. A front tamper switch detects cover removal, while a built-in accelerometer identifies changes to the detector’s angle or position. Dual-technology models also include anti-masking functionality to help protect against deliberate interference.
Built for outdoor use, the TXI Series is rated IP55 and operates in temperatures from -30°C to +60°C. The range comprises four models: the wired TXI-ST PIR detector and TXI-DAM dual-technology detector with anti-masking, alongside the battery-operated TXI-R PIR and TXI-RDAM dual-technology detector with anti-masking. The battery-operated models are compatible with third-party wireless transmitters, allowing integration with a preferred alarm system.
