CHUBB PROTECTS WELSH ASSEMBLY

Members of the Welsh Assembly can meet safe in the knowledge…

Members of the Welsh Assembly can meet safe in the knowledge that their building is fully protected thanks to a complete fire and security system designed and installed by Chubb. Chubb is a subsidiary of UTC Fire & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

The £27 million state-of-the-art building at Llandudno Junction in North Wales is among the greenest public buildings in Wales, accommodating over 500 civil servants and a range of support agencies.

The M&E consultant selected Chubb based on its competitive tender and previous track record. The project requires installation of a fully networked multi panel fire alarm system, Public Address/Voice Alarm (PAVA) technology and disabled refuge. A spokesman explains:

“Government buildings are particularly prone to attempted security breaches, so a sophisticated solution to protect the staff, building and contents was vital to the design,” he says. “To have both the fire and security systems installed by the same company – with the inherent experience and expertise of its engineers – was a major advantage.”

In terms of the CCTV installed, the system comprises more than 50 cameras, including 30 internal PTZ domes all operating over the IP network. The CCTV system is integrated with the intruder alarm, fire alarm, door entry/access and baggage checking systems.

Jane Garland, Marketing Communications Manager at Chubb says that working in government buildings presents a different challenge: “Parliaments the world over are at risk from breaches in security and the dangers of fire,” she says.

“Chubb is proud to have worked on such a prestigious and landmark building, and delivered a safer Assembly for the people of Wales.”
