IP Expo 2015: Kroll Ontrack Review
The star of the show at Kroll Ontrack’s stand at this year’s IP Expo was a smashed-up and fast-disintegrating laptop (see above), which had been rescued after suffering fire and water damage (from the sprinklers) and amazingly had data recovered from it by our engineering team.
The laptop was a powerful reminder of what can go wrong with IT equipment – and how it is still possible to recover valuable lost data even when the damage is severe. It was a good starting point for many conversations with visitors to our stand about how to protect against data loss and how the experts can help when the worst happens.
As a result this year’s IP Expo was a great success for Kroll Ontrack. It enabled us to meet our customers and visitors to the show face to face and talk through our capabilities and approaches to data recovery and data management solutions including erasure, Microsoft server restores and legacy tape.
It also gave us the opportunity to do a presentation alongside our client Simply Office Solutions about a real life cyberattack, where we helped Simply resist demands for money in return for compromised data and fully restored their VM systems.
The session included advice on the immediate steps to take after a data loss, which can be crucial: what happens straightaway can make the difference between a simple and successful data recovery effort and one that requires weeks of specialised work to retrieve the same data.
